Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pray with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), then would come to his own people and lead them in prayer. On one occasion, he recited Surah Al-Baqarah in the prayer. At this, one man separated from the congregation and prayed a light prayer by himself. When Mu'adh learned about this, he said, "He is a hypocrite." When this statement reached that man, he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we do laborious work and water our camels ourselves. Mu'adh led us in prayer last night and began reciting Surah Al-Baqarah, so I broke off from the prayer and prayed separately. For this, he says I am a hypocrite." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O Mu'adh, are you putting people to trial?" He said this three times. (When you are an imam) recite Surah Iqra’ (Al-‘Alaq), and Ash-Shams wa Duhaha, and Sabbihisma Rabbikal A‘la, and similar surahs.
