Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-Fatihah and another surah in the first two rak‘ahs of Zuhr prayer, and he would recite at length in them. But the last two rak‘ahs he would make light, and sometimes he would let us hear a verse. In ‘Asr prayer, he would recite Surah Al-Fatihah and other surahs, and he would also make the first two rak‘ahs long. Similarly, in the Fajr prayer, he would make the first rak‘ah long and the second light.
