Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill, and when his illness became severe, he said, "Tell Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer." Upon this, Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "He is soft-hearted; when he stands in your place, it will be difficult for him to lead the prayer." The Prophet (peace be upon him) again said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer." Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) repeated the same thing. The Prophet (peace be upon him) again said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer. You women are like the companions of Yusuf (Joseph) (making excuses)." Finally, a man came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) to call him, and he led the people in prayer during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
