Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrated that once I met Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said, "Shall I not give you a gift (of a hadith) which I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" I said, "Yes, please bestow this gift upon me." He narrated, "We asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), 'O Messenger of Allah, how should we send blessings upon you and your family? Allah has already taught us how to send salutations.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Say: O Allah, send Your mercy upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent Your mercy upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Most Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Surely, You are Most Praiseworthy, Most Glorious.'"

Brief Explanation
Hadith Narrator: The kunyah of Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah radi Allahu anhu was Abu Muhammad, although some have also mentioned Abu Ishaq. He participated in the ‘Umrah of Hudaybiyyah. It was regarding him that the incident of fidyah (compensation) became public and a concession was granted. As is found in the Sahihayn, the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam passed by him while he was in the state of ihram, and lice were falling from his head onto his face. The Prophet said, "Shave your head and distribute one sa‘ (a measure) among six needy people," meaning, give fidyah. He resided in Kufa and passed away in Madinah Munawwarah in 53 AH at the age of 75.
