Hadith 1882

Someone said to Hazrat Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that it would be good if you went to so-and-so (Hazrat Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him) and spoke with him (so that he may take measures to suppress this discord). He replied, "Do you people think that I speak to him in such a way that you can hear (right in front of you)? I speak to him in private so that I do not open the door of discord. I also do not wish to be the first to open the door of discord. And after hearing a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I do not say that the person who is made a leader over me is the best among all people." The people asked, "What is the hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" Hazrat Usama said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: On the Day of Resurrection, a man will be brought and thrown into Hell. His intestines will come out, and he will circle around them as a donkey circles around a millstone. The people of Hell will gather around him and say, 'O so-and-so! What is your condition today? Did you not used to command us to do good deeds and forbid us from evil deeds?' He will say, 'Yes, I used to command you to do good, but I did not do it myself. I used to forbid you from evil, but I used to do it myself.'"
