1869 صحيح حديث سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: إِنِّي لأَوَّلُ الْعَرَبِ رَمَى بِسَهْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَرَأَيْتُنَا نَغْزُو وَمَا لَنَا طَعَامٌ إِلاَّ وَرَقُ الْحُبْلَةِ وَهذَا السَّمُرُ وَإِنَّ أَحَدَنَا لَيَضَعُ كَمَا تَضَعُ الشَّاةُ، مَالَهُ خِلْطٌ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحَتْ بَنُو أَسَدٍ تُعَزِّرُنِي عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ خِبْتُ إِذًا، وَضَلَّ سَعْيِي
Hazrat Sa’d (bin Abi Waqqas) (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I am the first Arab who shot an arrow in the path of Allah. We spent such a time that we were engaged in jihad and had nothing to eat except the leaves of the Hublah tree and the leaves of the acacia tree, and we used to pass stool like goat droppings. Now these people of Banu Asad want to teach me Islam and correct me; then surely I am most unfortunate and all my deeds have gone to waste.
