Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Abu Jahl said, "O Allah! If this word is truly from You, then rain down stones upon us from the sky or bring upon us some other punishment." Upon this, the following verse was revealed: "But Allah would not punish them while you are among them, nor will Allah punish them while they seek forgiveness. But why should Allah not punish them while they hinder people from Al-Masjid Al-Haram, and they are not its guardians? Its guardians are only the righteous, but most of them do not know."
