Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the Battle of Hunayn, he sent Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) with a detachment towards the valley of Autas. In this battle, there was a confrontation with Duraid ibn as-Simmah. Duraid was killed and Allah Almighty defeated his army. Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had also sent me with Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). An arrow struck Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) in the knee. A man from Banu Jusham had shot the arrow at him and it lodged in his knee. I reached him and said, "Uncle! Who threw this arrow at you?" He indicated to Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Jushami is my killer, the one who targeted me. I rushed towards him and when I got close, he saw me and fled. I chased him and kept saying, "Aren't you ashamed? Won't you face me?" Eventually, he stopped and we struck at each other with swords. I killed him and went back to Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "Allah has caused your killer to be killed." He said, "Take the arrow out of my (knee)." I took it out and water started to flow from it. Then he said, "Nephew! Convey my greetings to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and request him to pray for my forgiveness." Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed me as his deputy over the people. After that, he lived a little while longer and attained martyrdom. I returned and reached the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was sitting in his house on a bed made of palm branches. There was no bedding on it, and the marks of the palm branches were visible on his back and side. I narrated to him the events concerning myself and Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him), and that he had requested a prayer for forgiveness. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water and performed ablution, then raised his hands and prayed, "O Allah! Forgive Ubaid Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him)." I saw whiteness under your armpits (when you were praying). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, "O Allah! On the Day of Resurrection, grant Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) a rank higher than many of Your creatures." I said, "And pray to Allah for my forgiveness as well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, "O Allah! Forgive the sins of Abdullah ibn Qais Abu Musa and grant him a good position on the Day of Resurrection." Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him) (the narrator of the hadith) stated that one prayer was for Abu Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) and the other was for Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him).
