Hadith 1531

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) told three lies, two of which were purely for the sake of Allah, the Exalted. One was his saying (as a form of dissimulation), "I am sick," and the second was his saying, "Rather, it was the biggest (idol) among them who did this." And it is narrated that once Ibrahim and Sarah (peace be upon them) were passing through the territory of a tyrant king. The king was informed that a man had arrived here accompanied by one of the most beautiful women in the world. The king sent his man to summon Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and asked about Sarah (peace be upon her), "Who is she?" Ibrahim (peace be upon him) replied, "She is my sister." Then he came to Sarah (peace be upon her) and said, "O Sarah! There is no other believer here besides you and me, and when this king asked me about you, I told him that you are my (religious) sister. So do not say anything that would make me out to be a liar." Then that tyrant summoned Sarah (peace be upon her), and when she went to him, he tried to reach out his hand towards her, but immediately his hand was seized. Then he said, "Pray to Allah for me (that I may be freed from this affliction); I will not harm you." So she prayed to Allah, and he was released. But then, for the second time, he reached out his hand, and this time too, he was seized, even more severely than before. Then he said, "Pray to Allah for me; I will not harm you." Sarah (peace be upon her) prayed, and he was released. After that, he called one of his servants and said, "You have not brought a human to me, but rather a rebellious jinn!" (As she was leaving,) he gave Hajar (peace be upon her) to Sarah (peace be upon her) as a servant. When Sarah (peace be upon her) returned, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was standing and offering prayer. He gestured with his hand to ask about her situation. She said, "Allah, the Exalted, has foiled the plot of the disbeliever or (she said) the wicked one, and has given me Hajar for service." Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Bani Ma’ al-Sama (O descendants of the water of the sky! i.e., O Arabs), your mother is none other than (Hazrat Hajar, peace be upon her)."
