Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we went with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to the house of Abu Saif, the blacksmith. He was the husband of the wet nurse who used to breastfeed Ibrahim (the son of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him) in his lap, kissed him, and smelled him. After that, we went there again and saw that at that time Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him) was breathing his last. The eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) filled with tears, so Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke up, "O Messenger of Allah! Even you begin to show impatience like people?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O Ibn Awf! This is not impatience, this is mercy." Then he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wept again and said, "Tears are flowing from the eyes and the heart is full of grief, but we will say only that which pleases our Lord. And O Ibrahim! We are grieved at your separation."
