Hadith 1441

Narrated Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying while delivering a sermon on the pulpit: "Kill snakes, especially those which have two spots on their heads and the snake with a cut tail, for both of them cause blindness and miscarriage." Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Once I was trying to kill a snake when Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) called out to me not to kill it. I said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered us to kill snakes." He informed me that later the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade killing the snakes that live in houses, as they are jinn, from being killed suddenly. And in another narration, it is mentioned that Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) saw me, or my uncle Zayd bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) did.

Brief Explanation
Hadith Narrator: ... The kunyah of Hazrat Rifa‘ah bin ‘Abdul-Mundhir al-Ansari radi Allahu anhu was Abu Lubabah. He participated in the Pledge of ‘Aqabah and in the battles of Badr and others. According to one opinion, he was not able to participate in Badr because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had instructed him to remain in Madinah. He passed away during the caliphate of Hazrat ‘Ali radi Allahu anhu.
