Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "There is no reality in bad omens, but taking a good omen is not objectionable." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "What is a good omen?" He replied, "A good word that any one of you hears."

Brief Explanation
In Sunan Abi Dawud, it is mentioned in the hadith of ‘Urwah bin ‘Amir that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was informed about people taking omens (such as by making birds fly, etc.), so he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: The best form of this is a good omen, and this bad omen or taking omens should not prevent a Muslim from acting. When any of you sees something he dislikes, he should recite this supplication:
اللهم لا يأتي بالحسنات إلا أنت ولا يدفع السيئات إلا أنت ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله
“O Allah, none brings good deeds except You, and none repels evil deeds except You, and there is no power nor strength except with Allah.”
That is, O Allah, You alone are the One who brings about good deeds, and You alone are the One who removes evil, and without Allah’s enabling grace, neither is it possible to avoid evil nor to have the strength to do good.
