Narrated Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that magic was worked on the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and its effect was that he would think that he had sexual relations with one of his wives, while he actually had not. Sufyan Thawri (one of the narrators of the chain) said that this is the most severe kind of magic, when it has such an effect. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Aisha! Do you know, the thing I asked Allah about, He has already answered me. Two angels came to me, one stood by my head and the other by my feet. The angel who was standing by my head said to the other: 'What is the condition of this man?' The other replied: 'He has been bewitched.' He asked: 'Who has bewitched him?' The reply was: 'Labeed bin A'sam, a man from Banu Zuraiq, allies of the Jews, and he was a hypocrite.' He asked: 'In what thing was the magic done?' The reply was: 'In a comb and hair.' He asked: 'Where is the magic?' The reply was: 'In the spadix of a male date-palm, placed under a stone in the well of Dharwan.' It was narrated that then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went to that well and took out the magic from inside. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'This is the same well that was shown to me in my dream; its water was like the infusion of henna, and the tops of its date-palm trees were like the heads of devils.' It was narrated that then the magic was taken out from the well. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that she said: 'Why did you not have this magic undone?' He replied: 'Allah has already cured me, and now I do not like to cause an uproar among the people.'"
