Hazrat Abu Waqid Al-Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that (once) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sitting in the mosque and people were sitting around him, when three men came there. (Of them) two reached before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and one turned back. (The narrator says that) then those two stood before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). After that, one of them (when) saw some space in the gathering, sat there, and the other sat behind the people of the gathering, and the third one turned back. So when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) finished (his talk), he said (to the companions, may Allah be pleased with them): "Shall I not tell you about these three men?" So (listen), one of them sought refuge with Allah, so Allah gave him refuge; and the second felt shy, so Allah also felt shy with him (i.e., forgave him); and the third turned away, so Allah also turned away from him.
