Hazrat Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Avoid sitting on the roads. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted, "We are compelled to sit there. That is our sitting place where we talk." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If you must sit there, then fulfill the rights of the road. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "And what are the rights of the road?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Lowering the gaze, avoiding causing harm to anyone, responding to greetings, enjoining good, and forbidding evil.
