Sayyiduna ‘Uthman bin ‘Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) asked (Humran) for a vessel of water. (And after receiving it, first) he poured water on his palms three times, then washed them. After that, he put his right hand into the vessel and (taking water) rinsed his mouth and cleaned his nose, then washed his face three times. And washed both hands up to the elbows three times. Then he wiped his head. Then he washed both feet up to the ankles three times. Then he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever performs ablution like this of mine and then offers two rak‘ahs in which he does not talk to himself, his past sins are forgiven.”

Brief Explanation
Narrator of the Hadith: The title (kunyah) of Amir al-Mu’minin Sayyiduna ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan radi Allahu anhu was Abu ‘Abdullah and Abu ‘Amr. He is the third rightly guided caliph of the Muslims. According to the correct opinion, he was born six years after the Year of the Elephant (‘Aam al-Fil). At the beginning of Islam, he embraced Islam at the hands of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq radi Allahu anhu. His maternal grandmother was the paternal aunt of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He became known by the title “Dhu al-Nurayn” because he married, one after the other, two daughters of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam: Sayyidah Ruqayyah and Sayyidah Umm Kulthum radi Allahu anhuma. He migrated twice to Abyssinia (Habashah). The Bay‘at al-Ridwan was pledged specifically for him. He purchased land for the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid al-Nabawi). He also bought the well of Rumah (Bi’r Rumah) for the Muslims. On Friday, the 18th of Dhu al-Hijjah, 35 AH, he was martyred in a state of oppression. During his caliphate, the Muslims achieved unparalleled victories.
