Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us one day and said: (In a dream) all the nations were presented before me. Some prophets would pass by and with them would be only one follower, some would pass by and with them would be two, some would have a whole group with them, and some would have no one with them. Then I saw a large group that covered the horizon. I thought that this would be my Ummah, but it was said to me that this is Musa (peace be upon him) and his people. Then I was told to look over there, and I saw many groups covering all the horizons. It was said: This is your Ummah, and among them are seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning. Then the companions dispersed to different places, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not clarify who those seventy thousand would be. The companions discussed this among themselves and said: We were born in polytheism, but later we believed in Allah and His Messenger. However, these seventy thousand will be our sons who are born as Muslims. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this, he said: These seventy thousand are those who do not seek omens, nor do they get themselves treated with ruqyah (incantations), nor do they cauterize themselves, but rather they put their trust in their Lord. Upon hearing this, Ukasha bin Mihsan (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, am I among them? He said: Yes. Another man (Sayyiduna Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah) stood up and said: Am I among them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ukasha has preceded you (i.e., what was destined for Ukasha has already happened before you).
