Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I was serving wine to people in the house of Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him). In those days, they used to drink wine made from dates. (Then, as soon as the Qur’anic verse regarding the prohibition of wine was revealed,) the Noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) had a caller announce that wine had become forbidden. He said (upon hearing this), Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said to take the wine outside and pour it away. So I went outside and poured out all the wine. Wine began to flow in the streets of Madinah, and some people said: It seems that many people have been killed in such a state that wine was still in their stomachs. Then Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: “Those who believe and do righteous deeds, there is no sin upon them for what they consumed before.”
