Hazrat Abu Tha’labah Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I said: O Messenger of Allah! We live in the villages of the People of the Book, so can we eat from their utensils? And we live in a land where there is much hunting. I hunt with my bow and also with my dog that is not trained, and with my dog that is trained. So which of these is permissible for me to eat? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: As for what you mentioned about the utensils of the People of the Book, if you can find other utensils, then do not eat in them, but if you cannot find any other utensils, then wash their utensils thoroughly and eat in them. And whatever game you hunt with your bow, and you have mentioned the name of Allah at the time of shooting, you may eat it. And whatever game you hunt with an untrained dog, and you yourself slaughter the game, you may eat it.
