Hazrat Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the “Mi’raaz” (hunting with an arrow). He (peace be upon him) said: If it strikes with its sharp edge, then eat (the game), but if it strikes with its broad side, then do not eat, because that is carrion. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I release my dog (for hunting) and I recite Bismillah, but then I find another dog with it, upon which I did not recite Bismillah. I cannot determine which of the two dogs caught the game. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Do not eat the meat of such a game, because you recited Bismillah for your dog, but not for the other.
