Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, "Has there been any day harder upon you than the day of Uhud?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, "I have faced many hardships from your people (the Quraysh), but the most difficult time for me was the day of Aqabah. That was the occasion when I presented myself to (the chief of Ta’if) Kinanah bin ‘Abd Yalil bin ‘Abd Kulal, but he did not accept (Islam) and rejected my invitation. I left there extremely saddened. Then, when I reached Qarn al-Tha‘alib, I regained consciousness. I lifted my head and saw that a piece of cloud was shading me, and I saw that Jibreel (Gabriel), peace be upon him, was in it. He called me and said, 'Allah has heard what your people have said to you and how they have rejected you. Allah has sent the Angel of the Mountains to you, so you may command him as you wish regarding them.' Then the Angel of the Mountains called me, greeted me with peace, and said, 'O Muhammad!' Then he repeated the same thing, 'If you wish, I will bring the two mountains together upon them (so that they will be crushed).' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'Rather, I hope that Allah will bring forth from their descendants those who will worship Allah alone and will not associate anything with Him.'"
