Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Muhajirun migrated from Makkah to Madinah, they had no belongings with them. The Ansar were people of land and property. The Ansar made an arrangement with the Muhajirun that they would give them fruit from their gardens every year, and in return, the Muhajirun would work in their gardens. The mother of Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), Umm Sulaym, who was also the mother of Abdullah bin Abi Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), gifted a date garden to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but he granted that garden to his slave woman Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the mother of Usamah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him). Ibn Shihab narrated that Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) informed me that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned to Madinah after finishing the battle with the Jews of Khaybar, the Muhajirun returned to the Ansar the gifts they had received from them in the form of fruits. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also returned the garden of Hazrat Anas’s mother and, instead, granted Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) some trees from his own garden.
