Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we said, "O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Do you have any difficulty in seeing the sun and the moon when the sky is clear?" We said, "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then you will have no difficulty in seeing your Lord, just as you have no difficulty in seeing the sun and the moon." Then he said, "A caller will call out: 'Let every nation go with what they used to worship.' So the worshippers of the cross will go with their cross, the worshippers of idols will go with their idols, and the worshippers of all false gods will go with their false gods (just as the worshippers of graves will go with those graves, and those who worship tazias, flags, and banners will go with them). Only those will remain who used to worship Allah sincerely. Among them will be both righteous and sinful Muslims, and some remnants of the People of the Book will also remain. Then Hell will be brought before them, shining like the sand of a plain (which from a distance appears like water). Then it will be asked of the Jews, 'Whom did you worship?' They will say, 'We used to worship 'Uzair, the son of Allah.' They will be told, 'You are liars. Allah has neither a wife nor a son. What do you want?' They will say, 'We want water, that we may be given to drink.' They will be told, 'Drink.' They will walk towards that shining sand, thinking it is water, and then they will be thrown into Hell. Then it will be said to the Christians, 'Whom did you worship?' They will reply, 'We used to worship the Messiah, the son of Allah.' They will be told, 'You are liars. Allah had neither a wife nor a child. Now what do you want?' They will say, 'We want to be given water to drink.' They will be told, 'Drink.' (They too will be driven towards that shining sand) and they too will be thrown into Hell, until only those remain who used to worship Allah sincerely, both righteous and sinful Muslims. They will be asked, 'Why are you standing here when all the people have gone?' They will say, 'We parted from them in the world at a time when we were in great need of their worldly benefits, and we have heard a caller announce that every nation should go with what they used to worship, and we are waiting for our Lord.' It is narrated that then Allah, the Compeller, will come to them in a form different from the one in which they first saw Him and will say, 'I am your Lord.' The people will say, 'You are our Lord.' And on that day, none will speak except the Prophets. Then He will ask, 'Do you know any sign by which you can recognize Him?' They will say, 'The Shin (Sāq).' Then Allah will uncover His Shin, and every believer will fall in prostration before Him, except those who used to prostrate for show and fame; they will also try to prostrate, but their backs will become like a board (stiff). Then they will be brought to the Bridge. We asked, 'O Messenger of Allah! What is the Bridge?' He said, 'It is a slippery place where one may fall. On it are hooks, tongs, and wide thorns, their heads bent like the thorns of Sa'dan found in the land of Najd. The believers will pass over it as quickly as the blink of an eye, like lightning, like the wind, like swift horses and mounts. Some will be saved unharmed, and some will be scorched by the fire of Hell but will escape, until the last person will crawl across it.' You people today demand your rights from me, but on that day the Muslims will demand and plead with Allah even more. And when they see that some of their brothers have been saved, they will say, 'O our Lord, our brothers used to pray with us, fast with us, and do other (good) deeds with us (so save them from Hell).' So Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'Go and bring out whoever has faith in his heart equal to a gold coin.' So they will bring out those whom they recognize. Then they will return, and Allah, the Exalted, will say, 'Go and bring out whoever has faith in his heart equal to the weight of a particle.' So they will bring out those whom they recognize. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said (about this), 'If you do not believe me, then recite this verse: "Indeed, Allah does not wrong even the weight of a particle; and if there is a good deed, He multiplies it..." (An-Nisa 4:40).' Then the Prophets, the believers, and the angels will intercede, and the Lord will say, 'Now only My intercession remains.' So Allah, the Pure, will take a handful from Hell and bring out people who have become like charcoal, then He will throw them into a river at the edge of Paradise, which is called the River of Life. They will sprout forth from its banks as vegetation sprouts from the debris of a flood. You have seen this scene on the edge of a rock or a tree: that which is exposed to the sun grows green, and that which is in the shade grows white. Then they will come out shining like pearls. After that, a seal will be placed on their necks (that these are the freed slaves of Allah), and they will be admitted to Paradise. The people of Paradise will call them 'the freed ones of the Most Merciful' (the slaves freed by the Merciful Allah). Allah has admitted them to Paradise without any deed that they did or any good that they performed, and it will be said to them, 'You will have whatever you see and as much again.' (These will be the sinful, non-practicing people of this Ummah.)
