Hazrat Uqbah bin Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we said to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): You send us to different countries and sometimes we have to stay among people who do not even offer us hospitality. What is your instruction for such occasions? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: If you stay with a tribe and they treat you in a manner suitable for a guest, then accept it. But if they do not, then you should take the right of hospitality from them yourselves.
