Hadith 1126

Hazrat Abu Shuraih Adawi, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that my ears heard and my eyes saw when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was speaking. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his neighbor, and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest in accordance with the custom. It was asked, O Messenger of Allah! For how long is it according to the custom? He said: One day and one night, and hospitality is for three days, and whatever is beyond that is charity for him. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.
