Hadith 1077

Hazrat Ma’rur narrates that I met Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) at Rabadhah. He was wearing a suit, and his slave was also wearing a suit. I inquired about the reason for this, so he said: I had once abused a person, that is, my slave, and taunted him about his mother (i.e., insulted him), so when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of this, he said to me: O Abu Dharr! You have taunted him about his mother; indeed, there is still some effect of the Age of Ignorance left in you. (Remember) those under you are your brothers. Allah has placed them under your authority (for some wisdom of His), so whoever has his brother under him, he should feed him what he himself eats, and clothe him with what he himself wears, and do not burden them with work that is too much for them, and if you do assign them a difficult task, then help them yourself.

Brief Explanation
Hazrat Abu Dharr Ghifari radi Allahu anhu taunted Hazrat Bilal radi Allahu anhu regarding his mother being of black complexion. Upon this, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "O Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu, indeed there remains in you some pride from the days of ignorance (jahiliyyah)." Hearing this, Hazrat Abu Dharr radi Allahu anhu lay down with his cheek on the ground and said, "I will not rise from the dust until Bilal places his foot upon my cheek." (Secret)
