Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! In the days of ignorance (disbelief), I had vowed to observe i'tikaf for one day. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered him to fulfill it. Ibn Umar narrated that among the captives of Hunayn, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) received two slave girls. So he kept them in a house in Makkah. He narrated that then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) showed kindness to the captives of Hunayn (and set them all free without any compensation), so they began to run in the streets. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Abdullah! See what is the matter. He was told that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had shown kindness to them (and all the captives of Hunayn had been set free without compensation). Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then go and set those two girls free as well.
