أهْلُ الْفَتْرَةِ وَالْأَحْمَقُ وَالْاصَمُ وَالْهَرِمُ
The people of the interval, the feeble-minded, the deaf, and the senile
Hadith 13259
وَعَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”أَرْبَعَةٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ رَجُلٌ أَصَمُّ لَا يَسْمَعُ شَيْئًا وَرَجُلٌ أَحْمَقُ وَرَجُلٌ هَرِمٌ وَرَجُلٌ مَاتَ فِي فَتْرَةٍ فَأَمَّا الْأَصَمُّ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّ لَقَدْ جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ وَمَا أَسْمَعُ شَيْئًا وَأَمَّا الْأَحْمَقُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّ لَقَدْ جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ وَالصِّبْيَانُ يَخْذِفُونَنِي بِالْبَعْرِ وَأَمَّا الْهَرِمُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّ لَقَدْ جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ وَمَا أَعْقِلُ شَيْئًا وَأَمَّا الَّذِي مَاتَ فِي الْفَتْرَةِ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّ مَا أَتَانِي لَكَ رَسُولٌ فَيَأْخُذُ مَوَاثِيقَهُمْ لَيُطِيعَنَّهُ فَيُرْسِلُ إِلَيْهِمْ أَنِ ادْخُلُوا النَّارَ قَالَ فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوْ دَخَلُوهَا لَكَانَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aswad bin Sari’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, four types of people will be presented before Allah Almighty: one will be deaf, who could not hear at all; the second will be a fool, that is, without sense; the third will be extremely old; and the fourth will be one who died during the period of Fatrah. The deaf person will say: O my Lord! Islam came to me at a time when I could not hear anything. The fool will say: O my Lord! Islam did come, but I was so senseless that children used to throw dung at me. The old man will say: O my Lord! When Islam came, my condition was such that I could not understand anything. And the one who died during the period of Fatrah will say: O my Lord! No messenger of Yours came to me at all. Upon hearing this, Allah Almighty will take a firm covenant from them that they will certainly obey Allah Almighty, then Allah Almighty will send a message to them: Enter this fire. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad! If they enter that fire, it will be coolness and safety for them.
Hadith 13260
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِثْلُ هَذَا غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ فِي آخِرِهِ ”فَمَنْ دَخَلَهَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْهِ بَرْدًا وَسَلَامًا وَمَنْ لَمْ يَدْخُلْهَا يُسْحَبُ إِلَيْهَا“
A hadith similar to the previous one is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), except that at the end of it are these words: Whoever enters this fire, it will be coolness and safety for him, and whoever does not enter it, he will be dragged towards it.
