أَهْلُ النَّارِ وَصِفَاتُهُمْ
The people of the Fire and their characteristics
Hadith 13221
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا عَفَّانُ ثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْعَدَوِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ أَخُو مُطَرِّفٍ قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنِي عُقْبَةُ كُلُّ هَؤُلَاءِ يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنِي مُطَرِّفٌ أَنَّ عِيَاضَ بْنَ حِمَارٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فِي خُطْبَتِهِ: ”إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُعَلِّمَكُمْ مَا جَهِلْتُمْ“ فَذَكَرَ أَهْلَ النَّارِ وَعَدَّ مِنْهُمُ الضَّعِيفَ الَّذِي لَا زَبْرَ لَهُ الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِيكُمْ تَبَعٌ لَا يَبْتَغُونَ أَهْلاً وَلَا مَالًا قَالَ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ لِمُطَرِّفٍ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَمِنَ الْمَوَالِي هُوَ أَمْ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ؟ قَالَ: هُوَ التَّابِعَةُ تَكُونُ لِلرَّجُلِ يُصِيبُ مِنْ خَدَمِهِ سَفَاحًا غَيْرَ نِكَاحٍ
Sayyiduna Iyad bin Himar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say during a sermon: Allah Almighty has commanded me to teach you those matters which you do not know. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the people of Hell, and among them he mentioned such people who are weak and devoid of intellect (that is, those who betray the person who gives them refuge and do not even respect his sanctity). These are the people who live by following you and are not seekers of family or wealth. Uqbah says that a man asked Mutarrif (the narrator of the hadith), "O Abu Abdullah! Are these people from among the slaves or the Arabs?" He replied: They are subordinate to a man, but they commit adultery with his slave women.
Hadith 13222
وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ عَنْ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: ”يَخْرُجُ عُنُقٌ مِنَ النَّارِ يَتَكَلَّمُ يَقُولُ: وُكِّلْتُ الْيَوْمَ بِثَلَاثَةٍ بِكُلِّ جَبَّارٍ وَبِمَنْ جَعَلَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَبِمَنْ قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ فَيَنْطَوِي عَلَيْهِمْ فَيَقْذِفُهُمْ فِي غَمَرَاتِ جَهَنَّمَ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A neck will emerge from Hell and it will say: Today, three types of people have been handed over to me—first, the one who is unjust and rebellious; second, the one who associates anyone with Allah Almighty; and third, the one who has unjustly killed a soul. Then it will seize such people and throw them into the depths of Hell.
Hadith 13223
وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عِنْدَ ذِكْرِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ: ”كُلُّ جَعْظَرِيٍّ جَوَّاظٍ مُسْتَكْبِرٍ جَمَّاعٍ مَنَّاعٍ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the people of Hell and said: Every ill-tempered (and ill-mannered), arrogant walker, proud, one who amasses a lot of wealth and is extremely miserly—these are all people of Hell.
Hadith 13224
وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أَبِي لَيْلَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ بِصَلَاةٍ لَيْسَتْ بِفَرِيضَةٍ فَمَرَّ بِذِكْرِ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ فَقَالَ: ”أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ النَّارِ وَيْحٌ أَوْ وَيْلٌ لِأَهْلِ النَّارِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Laila (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I heard that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was reciting (Qur'an) in a prayer, while that prayer was not obligatory. When he passed by the mention of Paradise and Hell, he made this supplication: "A‘udhu billahi min an-naar, wayh aw wayl li-ahl an-naar." (I seek refuge with Allah from the Fire; woe or destruction is for the people of the Fire.)
Hadith 13225
وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”يَعْظُمُ أَهْلُ النَّارِ فِي النَّارِ حَتَّى إِنَّ بَيْنَ شَحْمَةِ أُذُنِ أَحَدِهِمْ إِلَى عَاتِقِهِ مَسِيرَةَ سَبْعِمِائَةِ عَامٍ وَإِنَّ غِلَظَ جِلْدِهِ سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا وَإِنَّ ضِرْسَهُ مِثْلُ أُحُدٍ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In Hell, the bodies of the people of Hell will become so large that the distance between their ears and shoulders will be equal to a journey of seven hundred years, the thickness of their skin will be seventy hands, and each of their molar teeth will be equal to Mount Uhud.
Hadith 13226
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”ضِرْسُ الْكَافِرِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِثْلُ أُحُدٍ وَعَرْضُ جِلْدِهِ سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا وَفَخِذُهُ مِثْلُ وَرِقَانٍ وَمَقْعَدُهُ مِنَ النَّارِ مِثْلُ مَا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ الرَّبَذَةِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: On the Day of Resurrection, the molar tooth of the disbeliever will be as large as Mount Uhud, the thickness of his skin will be seventy cubits, his thighs and shanks will be as large as mountains, and his buttocks will become as large as the distance from here to the place of Rabdhah.
Hadith 13227
وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ وَفِيهِ: ”وَفَخِذُهُ مِثْلُ الْبَيْضَاءِ وَمَقْعَدُهُ مِنَ النَّارِ كَمَا بَيْنَ قَدِيدٍ إِلَى مَكَّةَ وَكَثَافَةُ جِلْدِهِ اثْنَانِ وَأَرْبَعُونَ ذِرَاعًا بِذِرَاعِ الْجَبَّارِ“
(Second chain) It is stated in this: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The thigh of a person of Hell will be as white as a mountain, his buttocks will become so large that the distance will be like from Qadeed to Makkah, and the thickness of his skin will be forty-two hand spans according to the hand of a big man.
Hadith 13228
وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”مَقْعَدُ الْكَافِرِ فِي النَّارِ مَسِيرَةُ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ وَكُلُّ ضِرْسٍ مِثْلُ أُحُدٍ وَفَخِذُهُ مِثْلُ وَرِقَانٍ وَجِلْدُهُ سِوَى لَحْمِهِ وَعِظَامِهِ أَرْبَعُونَ ذِرَاعًا“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: In Hell, the buttocks of the disbeliever will become equal to the distance of a three-day journey, each of his molar teeth will become equal to the Uhud mountain, his thigh will become equal to the Wurqan mountain, and the thickness of his skin will be forty hand spans, while his flesh and bones will be in addition to that.
