احْتِجَاجُ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ
The dispute between Paradise and Hell
Hadith 13191
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”احْتَجَّتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَالنَّارُ فَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ: يَا رَبِّ مَا لِي لَا يَدْخُلُنِي إِلَّا فُقَرَاءُ النَّاسِ وَسَقَطُهُمْ وَقَالَتِ النَّارُ: مَا لِي لَا يَدْخُلُنِي إِلَّا الْجَبَّارُونَ وَالْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ فَقَالَ لِلنَّارِ: أَنْتِ عَذَابِي أُصِيبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَقَالَ لِلْجَنَّةِ: أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي أُصِيبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَلِكُلِّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْكُمَا مِلْؤُهَا فَأَمَّا الْجَنَّةُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُنْشِئُ لَهَا مَا يَشَاءُ وَأَمَّا النَّارُ فَيُلْقَوْنَ فِيهَا وَتَقُولُ: هَلْ مِنْ مَزِيدٍ حَتَّى يَضَعَ قَدَمَهُ فِيهَا فَهُنَالِكَ تَمْتَلِئُ وَيُزْوَى بَعْضُهَا إِلَى بَعْضٍ وَتَقُولُ قَطْ قَطْ قَطْ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Paradise and Hell had a dispute. Paradise said: O my Lord! What is my condition that only poor and destitute people will enter me? And Hell said: What is my condition that only oppressors and arrogant people will enter me? Allah Almighty said to the Fire: You are My punishment; I will impose you upon whomsoever of My servants I will. And He said to Paradise: You are My mercy; I will show mercy through you to whomsoever I will. I will fill each of you. As for Paradise, Allah Almighty will create new creatures for it according to His will. But as for Hell, people will be thrown into it, but it will still keep saying: Are there any more? Eventually, Allah Almighty will place His foot in it, and thus it will be filled, and its parts will draw close to each other. And it will exclaim: Enough, enough, it is sufficient, it is sufficient.
Hadith 13192
وَعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”افْتَخَرَتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَالنَّارُ فَقَالَتِ النَّارُ: يَا رَبِّ يَدْخُلُنِي الْجَبَابِرَةُ وَالْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ وَالْمُلُوكُ وَالْأَشْرَافُ وَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ: أَيْ رَبِّ يَدْخُلُنِي الضُّعَفَاءُ وَالْفُقَرَاءُ وَالْمَسَاكِينُ فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى لِلنَّارِ: أَنْتِ عَذَابِي أُصِيبُ بِكَ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَقَالَ لِلْجَنَّةِ: أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ وَلِكُلِّ مِنْكُمَا مِلْؤُهَا فَيُلْقَى فِي النَّارِ أَهْلُهَا فَتَقُولُ: هَلْ مِنْ مَزِيدٍ قَالَ: وَيُلْقَى فِيهَا وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِنْ مَزِيدٍ وَيُلْقَى فِيهَا فَتَقُولُ: هَلْ مِنْ مَزِيدٍ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فَيَضَعُ قَدَمَهُ عَلَيْهَا فَتُزْوَى فَتَقُولُ: قَدِي قَدِي وَأَمَّا الْجَنَّةُ فَيَبْقَى فِيهَا أَهْلُهَا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَبْقَى فَيُنْشِئُ اللَّهُ لَهَا خَلْقًا مَا يَشَاءُ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Paradise and Hell expressed superiority over each other. Hell said: O my Lord! People of the type who are oppressors, tyrants, arrogant, rulers, and chiefs will enter me. And Paradise said: O my Lord! People of the type who are weak, poor, and destitute will enter me. Allah Almighty said to Hell: You are My punishment; I will impose you upon those whom I wish to punish. And Allah Almighty said to Paradise: You are My mercy, which is vaster than everything. And both of you will be filled. The people of Hell will be thrown into Hell, but Hell will demand more people. Then people will be thrown into it, but it will still say, "Are there any more?" Then people will be thrown into it, but it will say, "Are there any more (there is still room)?" Until Allah Almighty places His foot in it, then it will contract and its sides will come together, and it will say: "Enough, enough." As for Paradise, there will still be room left in it for more people, so Allah Almighty will create as many new creatures for it as He wills.
