بيان الشفاعة للعصاة يوم القيامةExplanation of Intercession for Sinners on the Day of Resurrection
طَلْبُ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم شَفَاعَتَهُ لَهُمْ وَشَفَاعَتُهُ ﷺ لِكُلِّ مَنْ مَاتَ لا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا
Some companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) asking for his intercession for them, and his intercession for everyone who died without associating anything with Allah
Hadith 13112
عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ قَالَ فَعَرَّسَ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَانْتَهَيْتُ بَعْضَ اللَّيْلِ إِلَى مُنَاخِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَطْلُبُهُ فَلَمْ أَجِدْهُ قَالَ فَخَرَجْتُ بَارِزًا أَطْلُبُهُ وَإِذَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَطْلُبُ مَا أَطْلُبُ قَالَ فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ إِذِ اتَّجَهَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْتَ بِأَرْضِ حَرْبٍ وَلَا نَأْمَنُ عَلَيْكَ فَلَوْلَا إِذْ بَدَتْ لَكَ الْحَاجَةُ قُلْتَ لِبَعْضِ أَصْحَابِكَ فَقَامَ مَعَكَ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ هَزِيزًا كَهَزِيزِ الرَّحَى أَوْ حَنِينًا كَحَنِينِ النَّحْلِ وَأَتَانِي آتٍ مِنْ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ فَخَيَّرَنِي أَنْ يَدْخُلَ شَطْرُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ وَبَيْنَ شَفَاعَتِي لَهُمْ فَاخْتَرْتُ شَفَاعَتِي لَهُمْ وَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّهَا أَوْسَعُ لَهُمْ فَخَيَّرَنِي بِأَنْ يَدْخُلَ ثُلُثُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ وَبَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ فَاخْتَرْتُ لَهُمْ شَفَاعَتِي وَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّهَا أَوْسَعُ لَهُمْ“ فَقَالَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى أَنْ يَجْعَلَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِكَ قَالَ فَدَعَا لَهُمَا ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمَا نَبَّهَا أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَخْبَرَاهُمْ بِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجَعَلُوا يَأْتُونَهُ وَيَقُولُونَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ادْعُ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى أَنْ يَجْعَلَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِكَ فَيَدْعُو لَهُمْ قَالَ فَلَمَّا أَضَبَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْمُ وَكَثُرُوا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”إِنَّهَا لِمَنْ مَاتَ وَهُوَ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition during a journey. In the last part of the night, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped at a place to rest. Then, at some point during the night, I went to see the resting place of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but I did not find him there. Then I set out in search of him, and another companion was also searching for him like me. We were searching for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he came towards us. We said: O Messenger of Allah! You are in the enemy’s territory, so we cannot be careless about you. If you have any task, then please tell one of your companions so that he may go with you. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I heard a sound like the turning of a millstone or the buzzing of bees, and a messenger from my Lord, the Exalted, came to me. He gave me the choice between two things: either Allah, the Exalted, would admit half of my Ummah into Paradise, or I would intercede for them. I chose the matter of intercession for my Ummah, because I knew that there is more vastness in it. Then Allah, the Exalted, gave me the choice that either one third of my Ummah would enter Paradise, or I would intercede for them. So I chose the matter of intercession for them, because I knew that there is more vastness in intercession. Upon hearing this, those two companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah, the Exalted, that He makes us among those who will receive your intercession. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for both of them. After this, they came to the other companions and told them all that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. Upon hearing this, the rest of the people also came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and began to request the same, that he pray to Allah, the Exalted, to make them among those who will receive his intercession. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to pray for them as well, but when many people began to come to him with this request, he said: My intercession will be for every person who dies in such a state that he bears witness that there is no god but Allah.
Hadith 13113
وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى أَيْضًا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَحْرُسُهُ أَصْحَابُهُ فَقُمْتُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَلَمْ أَرَهُ فِي مَنَامِهِ فَأَخَذَنِي مَا قَدُمَ وَمَا حَدَثَ فَذَهَبْتُ أَنْظُرُ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِمُعَاذٍ قَدْ لَقِيَ الَّذِي لَقِيتُ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ وَفِيهِ فَقَالَ ”أَنْتُمْ وَمَنْ مَاتَ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا فِي شَفَاعَتِي“
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, that the noble companions used to keep watch over the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. One night I got up and did not see the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in his resting place. All kinds of worries, past and future, surrounded me. I set out in search of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. During this, I met Sayyiduna Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him; he was also afflicted with the same anxiety as I was... After this, it is similar to the previous hadith, except that in this one it is stated: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: My intercession will be for you and for every person who did not associate anyone with Allah Almighty.
Hadith 13114
وَعَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ فَقَدَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً أَصْحَابُهُ وَكَانُوا إِذَا نَزَلُوا أَنْزَلُوهُ أَوْسَطَهُمْ فَفَزِعُوا وَظَنُّوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى اخْتَارَ لَهُ أَصْحَابًا غَيْرَهُمْ فَإِذَا هُمْ بِخَيَالِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَكَبَّرُوا حِينَ رَأَوْهُ وَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَشْفَقْنَا أَنْ يَكُونَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى اخْتَارَ لَكَ أَصْحَابًا غَيْرَنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”لَا بَلْ أَنْتُمْ أَصْحَابِي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى أَيْقَظَنِي فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ نَبِيًّا وَلَا رَسُولًا إِلَّا وَقَدْ سَأَلَنِي مَسْأَلَةً أَعْطَيْتُهَا إِيَّاهُ فَاسْأَلْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ تُعْطَ فَقُلْتُ مَسْأَلَتِي شَفَاعَةٌ لِأُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ“ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَمَا الشَّفَاعَةُ قَالَ ”أَقُولُ يَا رَبِّ شَفَاعَتِي الَّتِي اخْتَبَأْتُ عِنْدَكَ فَيَقُولُ الرَّبُّ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى نَعَمْ فَيُخْرِجُ رَبِّي تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى بَقِيَّةَ أُمَّتِي مِنَ النَّارِ فَيَنْبِذُهُمْ فِي الْجَنَّةِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubada bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him): One night, the noble companions found that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was missing from his place. It was their custom that whenever they halted at a place, they would make the resting place of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in their midst. When they did not find him in his place, they became anxious and thought that Allah Almighty had chosen other people as companions for His Prophet instead of them (i.e., that he had passed away). So they set out in search of him. Then, when they saw him, they said “Allahu Akbar” out of happiness. Then they said: O Messenger of Allah! We feared that Allah Almighty had made others your companions instead of us (i.e., you had passed away). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No, there is nothing of the sort, and you are my companions in this world and the Hereafter. The matter was that Allah Almighty awakened me and said: O Muhammad! Of all the Messengers and Prophets I have sent, each one made a supplication to Me, and I accepted that supplication for him in every case. O Muhammad! You too make a supplication; it will surely be accepted. So I submitted: My supplication is that on the Day of Resurrection, intercession will be for my Ummah. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What is meant by intercession? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will say, O my Lord! That intercession which I had kept hidden with You? Allah Almighty will say: Yes. Then, because of that intercession, Allah Almighty will take the remainder of my Ummah out of Hell and admit them into Paradise.
Hadith 13115
وَعَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي مَخْزُومٍ عَنْ خَادِمٍ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٍ أَوِ امْرَأَةٍ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِمَّا يَقُولُ لِلْخَادِمِ ”أَلَكَ حَاجَةٌ“ قَالَ حَتَّى كَانَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ حَاجَتِي قَالَ ”وَمَا حَاجَتُكَ“ قَالَ حَاجَتِي أَنْ تَشْفَعَ لِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَ ”وَمَنْ دَلَّكَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ“ قَالَ رَبِّي قَالَ ”إِمَّا لَا فَأَعِنِّي بِكَثْرَةِ السُّجُودِ“
A servant (male or female) of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to ask his servant: "Do you have any need?" One day it happened that the servant said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have a need." He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) asked: "What is that?" The servant said: "My need is that you intercede for me on the Day of Resurrection." He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) asked: "Who told you about this?" The servant replied: "My Lord did." He (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: "If that is the case, then assist me by increasing your prostrations."
Hadith 13116
وَعَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ أَنْ يَشْفَعَ لِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَ قَالَ ”أَنَا فَاعِلٌ بِهِمْ“ قَالَ فَأَيْنَ أَطْلُبُكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَالَ ”اطْلُبْنِي أَوَّلَ مَا تَطْلُبُنِي عَلَى الصِّرَاطِ“ قَالَ قُلْتُ فَإِذَا لَمْ أَلْقَكَ عَلَى الصِّرَاطِ قَالَ ”فَأَنَا عِنْدَ الْمِيزَانِ“ قَالَ قُلْتُ فَإِنْ لَمْ أَلْقَكَ عِنْدَ الْمِيزَانِ قَالَ ”فَأَنَا عِنْدَ الْحَوْضِ لَا أُخْطِئُ هَذِهِ الثَّلَاثَ مَوَاطِنَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, he says: I requested the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to intercede for me on the Day of Resurrection. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes, I will intercede for people on the Day of Resurrection. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Where should I look for you on that day? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: First, look for me at the Bridge of Sirat. I said: If I do not find you at the Bridge of Sirat? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then look for me near the Scale (Mizan). I said: If I do not find you near the Scale either? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then I will be at the Pond of Kawthar. On the Day of Resurrection, I will be at one of these three places.
Hadith 13117
وَعَنِ ابْنِ دَارَةَ مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ قَالَ أَنَا لَبِالْبَقِيعِ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِذْ سَمِعْنَاهُ يَقُولُ أَنَا أَعْلَمُ النَّاسِ بِشَفَاعَةِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَ فَتَدَاكَّ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا إِيِّهِ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ قَالَ يَقُولُ ”اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُسْلِمٍ لَقِيَكَ يُؤْمِنُ بِي وَلَا يُشْرِكُ بِكَ“
Mawla Usman bin Darah says: I was at the place of Baqi with Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and we heard him saying: On the Day of Resurrection, I know the most about the intercession of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Upon hearing this, people gathered around him and began to say: Say more, may Allah have mercy on you, (explain this in detail). He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will say: O Allah, forgive every Muslim servant who believed in me and did not associate anyone with You.
