بيان الشفاعة للعصاة يوم القيامةExplanation of Intercession for Sinners on the Day of Resurrection
حِرْصُهٌ ﷺ عَلَى الشَّفَاعَةِ لِأُمَّتِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
His (peace be upon him) eagerness for intercession for his nation on the Day of Resurrection
Hadith 13091
عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: اجْتَمَعَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَكَعْبٌ، فَجَعَلَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ يُحَدِّثُ كَعْبًا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَعْبٌ يُحَدِّثُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ الْكُتُبِ، قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ دَعْوَةٌ مُسْتَجَابَةٌ، وَإِنِّي اخْتَبَأْتُ دَعْوَتِي شَفَاعَةً لِأُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ“
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) gathered together. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) began narrating the sayings of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to Sayyiduna Ka'b, and he began telling him things from the previous scriptures. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: For every prophet, there is one accepted supplication, and I have kept this supplication hidden, so that I may intercede for my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 13092
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”قَدْ أُعْطِيَ كُلُّ نَبِيٍّ عَطِيَّةً، فَكُلٌّ قَدْ تَعَجَّلَهَا، وَإِنِّي أَخَّرْتُ عَطِيَّتِي شَفَاعَةً لِأُمَّتِي“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Every prophet has been granted an accepted supplication by Allah Almighty; every prophet hastened to use it (and received it in this world), but I have postponed mine to intercede for my Ummah.
Hadith 13093
عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ قَالَ: خَطَبَ بِنَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ الْبَصْرَةِ فَقَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ نَبِيٌّ إِلَّا لَهُ دَعْوَةٌ قَدْ تَنَجَّزَهَا فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَإِنِّي قَدِ اخْتَبَأْتُ دَعْوَتِي شَفَاعَةً لِأُمَّتِي“
Abu Nadrah says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed us from the pulpit of Basra and said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every prophet was given one accepted supplication, and each of them used that supplication in this world. However, I have kept my supplication hidden to intercede for my Ummah.
Hadith 13094
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: مَاذَا رَدَّ إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ فِي الشَّفَاعَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: ”وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ! لَقَدْ ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّكَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ يَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ ذَلِكَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي لِمَا رَأَيْتُ مِنْ حِرْصِكَ عَلَى الْعِلْمِ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ! مَا يَهُمُّنِي مِنْ انْقِصَافِهِمْ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ أَهَمُّ عِنْدِي مِنْ تَمَامِ شَفَاعَتِي، وَشَفَاعَتِي لِمَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ مُخْلِصًا، يُصَدِّقُ قَلْبُهُ لِسَانَهُ، وَلِسَانُهُ قَلْبَهُ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) what answer did your Lord give you regarding your request for intercession? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! I thought that you would be the first among my Ummah to ask me about this, because I have found you eager for knowledge. By Him in Whose hands is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! To me, the fulfillment of my intercession is more important than the crowds of people at the gates of Paradise, and this intercession of mine will be for every person who bears witness with sincerity to the Oneness of Allah Almighty in such a way that his heart confirms what his tongue says, and his tongue confirms what is in his heart.
Hadith 13095
عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”خُيِّرْتُ بَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ أَوْ يَدْخُلُ نِصْفُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ، فَاخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ لِأَنَّهَا أَعَمُّ وَأَكْفَى، أَتَرَوْنَهَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ؟ لَا، وَلَكِنَّهَا لِلْمُتَلَوِّثِينَ الْخَطَّاءِ“، قَالَ زِيَادٌ: أَمَا إِنَّهَا لَحْنٌ، وَلَكِنْ هَكَذَا حَدَّثَنَا الَّذِي حَدَّثَنَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I was given the choice between two things: either I may intercede or half of my Ummah may enter Paradise. I chose intercession, because it is broader and more general, and it will suffice for more people. Do you think that my intercession is for the pious people? No, no, it is for those who are involved in sins, those who are sinners. Ziyad said: In this text, reading الْخَطَّاؤُوْنَ is a mistake; nevertheless, those who narrated to us have narrated it in this way.
Hadith 13096
عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: ”رَأَيْتُ مَا تَلْقَى أُمَّتِي بَعْدِي وَسَفْكَ بَعْضِهِمْ دِمَاءَ بَعْضٍ، وَسَبَقَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى كَمَا سَبَقَ لِأُمَمٍ قَبْلَهُمْ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ أَنْ يُوَلِّيَنِي شَفَاعَةً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِيهِمْ فَفَعَلَ“
It is narrated from the wife of the Messenger, Sayyida Umm Habiba (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I saw how my Ummah would fall into various sins after me, they would even shed each other's blood, and this decision from Allah Almighty has been made just as it was for the previous nations. Therefore, I requested Allah Almighty to grant me permission to intercede for them on the Day of Judgment, and so He accepted my supplication.
Hadith 13097
عَنْ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ بُرَيْدَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ يَتَكَلَّمُ، فَقَالَ بُرَيْدَةُ: يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ! فَأْذَنْ لِي فِي الْكَلَامِ، فَقَالَ: نَعَمْ، وَهُوَ يَرَى أَنَّهُ سَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِمِثْلِ مَا قَالَ الْآخَرُ، فَقَالَ بُرَيْدَةُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ”إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَشْفَعَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَدَدَ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ وَمَدَرَةٍ“، قَالَ: أَفَتَرْجُوهَا أَنْتَ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ؟ وَلَا يَرْجُوهَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ؟
Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), and there was a man there speaking inappropriately about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Muawiyah! Allow me to speak." Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Go ahead, speak," thinking that he would speak like that man. But Sayyiduna Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'I hope that on the Day of Resurrection I will intercede for people equal to the number of trees and bricks on the face of the earth.' Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him)! Now tell me, can you be hopeful for this intercession and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) cannot?"
