The cunning of Ibn Sayyad and his denial that he is the Dajjal
Hadith 12962
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَقْبَلْنَا فِي جَيْشٍ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ قِبَلَ هَذَا الْمَشْرِقِ قَالَ فَكَانَ فِي الْجَيْشِ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَيَّادٍ وَكَانَ لَا يُسَايِرُهُ أَحَدٌ وَلَا يُرَافِقُهُ وَلَا يُوَاكِلُهُ وَلَا يُشَارِبُهُ وَيُسَمُّونَهُ الدَّجَّالَ فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ نَازِلٌ فِي مَنْزِلٍ لِي إِذْ رَآنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَيَّادٍ جَالِسًا فَجَاءَ حَتَّى جَلَسَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ أَلَا تَرَى إِلَى مَا يَصْنَعُ النَّاسُ لَا يُسَايِرُنِي أَحَدٌ وَلَا يُرَافِقُنِي أَحَدٌ وَلَا يُشَارِبُنِي أَحَدٌ وَلَا يُوَاكِلُنِي أَحَدٌ وَيَدَّعُونِي الدَّجَّالَ وَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنْتَ يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”إِنَّ الدَّجَّالَ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْمَدِينَةَ“ وَإِنِّي وُلِدْتُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ”إِنَّ الدَّجَّالَ لَا يُولَدُ لَهُ“ وَقَدْ وُلِدَ لِي فَوَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ مِمَّا يَصْنَعُ بِي هَؤُلَاءِ النَّاسُ أَنْ آخُذَ حَبْلًا فَأَخْلُوَ فَأَجْعَلَهُ فِي عُنُقِي فَأَخْتَنِقَ فَأَسْتَرِيحَ مِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ النَّاسِ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَنَا بِالدَّجَّالِ وَلَكِنْ وَاللَّهِ لَوْ شِئْتَ لَأَخْبَرْتُكَ بِاسْمِهِ وَاسْمِ أَبِيهِ وَاسْمِ أُمِّهِ وَاسْمِ الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِي يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We came with an army from a city located towards the east, and Abdullah bin Sayyad was also in that army. No one would walk with him, sit with him, nor liked to eat or drink with him, and people used to call him the Dajjal. One day I was sitting in my house when Abdullah bin Sayyad saw me and came and sat near me and said: Abu Sa'id! You see the treatment people give me, no one likes to walk, sit, or eat and drink with me, and they also call me the Dajjal. Abu Sa'id! You know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has said that: The Dajjal will not be able to enter Madinah Munawwarah. Whereas I was born in Madinah. And you have also heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that: The Dajjal will have no children. Whereas I have children. By Allah! Seeing the attitude of people, I have intended to go to a secluded place, put a rope around my neck and strangle myself, and find relief from people's words. By Allah! I am not the Dajjal. By Allah! If you wish, I can inform you of his, his father's, and his mother's names, and the name of the town from which he will appear.
Hadith 12963
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ حَجَجْنَا فَنَزَلْنَا تَحْتَ ظِلِّ شَجَرَةٍ وَجَاءَ ابْنُ صَائِدٍ فَنَزَلَ فِي نَاحِيَتِهَا فَقُلْتُ مَا صَبَّ اللَّهُ هَذَا عَلَيَّ قَالَ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ مَا أَلْقَى مِنَ النَّاسِ يَقُولُونَ لِي إِنِّي الدَّجَّالُ أَمَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ”الدَّجَّالُ لَا يُولَدُ لَهُ وَلَا يَدْخُلُ الْمَدِينَةَ وَلَا مَكَّةَ“ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلَى وَقَالَ قَدْ وُلِدَ لِي وَقَدْ خَرَجْتُ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ مَكَّةَ قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ فَكَأَنِّي رَقَّقْتُ لَهُ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ إِنَّ أَعْلَمَ النَّاسِ بِمَكَانِهِ لَأَنَا قَالَ قُلْتُ تَبًّا لَكَ سَائِرَ الْيَوْمِ
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We went for Hajj and on the way we stopped under a tree. Ibn Sayyad also came and sat on one side under that tree. I said: What calamity has Allah put upon me. He said: Abu Sa'id! How many hurtful things I have to hear from people, they say that I am the Dajjal. Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the Dajjal will have no children and he will not be able to enter Madinah Munawwarah and Makkah Mukarramah? I said: Yes, why not. Then he said: I do have children and now I have come out from Madinah and will go and stay towards Makkah Mukarramah. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: So after hearing his words, my heart softened for him. Then he said: By Allah! I have the most knowledge about his place of emergence. Upon hearing this, I said: May you be ruined all day long.
