Hadith 12959
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him, went to that orchard where Ibn Sayyad was present. When they entered the garden, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, began to move towards him, hiding behind the trunks of the date palms in order to secretly listen to his words, so that before he (Ibn Sayyad) could see the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, the Prophet could hear something from him. Meanwhile, he (Ibn Sayyad) was lying on his bed covered with a sheet, and the sound of his murmuring was coming. But when his mother saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, hiding behind the trunks of the date palms, she called out: "O Saf! (that was his name) This is Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him." Hearing this, he immediately got up. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If she had not warned him, he would have revealed his reality through his words."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Jewish woman of Madinah Munawwarah gave birth to a child, one of whose eyes was flattened and protruding upwards. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) feared that this might be the Dajjal. He (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, and he was covered with a sheet, and a humming sound was coming from him. But his mother, warning him, said: "O Abdullah! Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) has come, so go to him." So he came out from under the sheet. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is wrong with his mother? May Allah destroy her. If she had left him lying as he was, he would have revealed his reality by his own words." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Sayyad! What do you see?" He said: "I see the truth and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon water." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The matter has been confused for you." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I believe in Allah and His Messengers." After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left him and went back. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to him again and found him among the date-palm trees, humming something, but again his mother warned him, saying: "Abdullah! Abu al-Qasim has come." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is wrong with her? May Allah destroy her. If she had left him unaware as he was, he would have revealed his reality by his own words." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to hear his words, so that he would know whether he was the Dajjal or not. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ibn Sayyad! What do you see?" He said: "I see the truth and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon water." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I believe in Allah and His Messengers." Thus, the matter was confused for him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left him and went away, and then for the third or fourth time, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went to him with a group of Ansar and Muhajirin, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) were also with him. It happened that this time the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) quickly went ahead of us, trying to hear something from him, but his mother quickly went to him and said: "Abdullah! Abu al-Qasim has come." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is wrong with her? May Allah destroy her. If she had left him unaware as he was, he would have revealed his reality by his own words." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ibn Sayyad! What do you see?" He said: "I see the truth and I see falsehood, and I see a throne upon water." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "And do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I believe in Allah and His Messengers." Thus, the matter was confused for him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Ibn Sayyad! We are thinking of a word in our hearts for you, that is, to test you. Tell us what it is." He said: "It is ad-dukh, ad-dukh." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Go away, go away." Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Allow me to kill him." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he is indeed the Dajjal, you will have no power over him; the one who will confront him will be Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him). And if he is not the Dajjal, then it is not permissible for you to kill a dhimmi." In any case, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to fear that he might be the Dajjal.

Mahdi bin Imran Mazni says: I heard from Sayyiduna Abu Tufail (may Allah be pleased with him), when he was asked whether he had seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes. Then he was asked: Did you also speak with him (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: No, I only saw that he went to such-and-such a place, and some other companions, including Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), were with him. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached a spacious house, he said: Open this door. So the door was opened, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) entered inside, and I also went in with him. In the middle of the room there was a sheet spread out. He said: Lift this sheet. So they lifted the sheet, and underneath it was a one-eyed boy. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O boy! Stand up. So he stood up. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Boy! Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? He replied: And do you (peace and blessings be upon him) testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) again said: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? He again replied: And do you (peace and blessings be upon him) testify that I am the Messenger of Allah? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said twice: Seek Allah’s refuge from his evil.
