It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The Hour will not be established until a man from my Ahl al-Bayt becomes the ruler; he will have my name. Imam Ahmad said: Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah narrated this hadith to us in a room of his house when a son of Ja'far bin Yahya or Yahya bin Khalid asked him about this hadith.
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These days and this era will not end until a man from my Ahl al-Bayt, whose name will be like my name, becomes the ruler of the land of Arabia.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Even if only one day remains of the world, Allah Almighty will still send a man from among us, who will fill the earth with justice and fairness, just as it had previously been filled with oppression and tyranny.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: The Day of Judgment will not be established until a man from my Ahl al-Bayt comes to power; he will be extremely handsome with a high nose, and he will fill the earth with justice and fairness just as it was previously filled with oppression and injustice. He will remain for seven years.
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: We feared that after the Noble Prophet, various incidents would occur in the world, so we asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about this, and he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: In my Ummah, a person, Mahdi, will appear for five, or seven, or nine. The narrator Zaid was in doubt, so I asked: What is meant by this number? He said: Years. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The sky will pour down torrential rains upon the people, and the earth will not withhold anything of its crops within itself, and there will be heaps of wealth and riches. A man will come to him and say: O Mahdi! Give me, give me, so he will put as much as the man is able to carry into his garment.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When discord will be rampant among my Ummah and earthquakes will be occurring, I give you the glad tidings of Mahdi, who will fill the earth with justice and fairness just as it was previously filled with oppression and tyranny. All those in the heavens and the earth will be pleased with him. He will distribute wealth among the people with equality, and Allah Almighty will fill the hearts of the Ummah of Muhammad with contentment. His justice and fairness will reach everyone. He will order a caller to announce: “Whoever is in need of wealth, let him come.” Upon hearing this announcement, only one man will stand up. Mahdi will say to him: “Go and tell the treasurer that Mahdi commands you to give me wealth.” The treasurer will say to him: “Take as much as you wish.” When he fills his cloak with a great amount of wealth and ties it up, he will feel remorse and say: “Among the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), I turned out to be the most impatient. Has that thing which reached all of them become insufficient for me?” So he will return that wealth, but Mahdi will not accept it from him, and it will be said to him: “Whatever we give, we do not take back.” For seven, or eight, or nine years, such prosperity will prevail, after which there will be no good in living.
Mawla of the Messenger, Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: When you see black flags coming from the direction of Khurasan, then go towards them and join them, for among them will be Allah’s Caliph, Mahdi.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Mahdi will be from among us, the Ahl al-Bayt. Allah Almighty will rectify him in a single night.
