فَرْعٌ فِيْمَا جَاءَ فِي تَلْقِيحِ النَّخْلِ
Branch regarding what has come about pollinating date palms
Hadith 12775
عَنْ سِمَاكٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُوسَى بْنَ طَلْحَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ مَرَرْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَخْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَرَأَى أَقْوَامًا فِي رُءُوسِ النَّخْلِ يُلَقِّحُونَ النَّخْلَ فَقَالَ ”مَا يَصْنَعُ هَؤُلَاءِ“ قَالَ يَا أَخُذُونَ مِنَ الذَّكَرِ فَيَحُطُّونَ فِي الْأُنْثَى يُلَقِّحُونَ بِهِ فَقَالَ ”مَا أَظُنُّ ذَلِكَ يُغْنِي شَيْئًا“ فَبَلَغَهُمْ فَتَرَكُوهُ وَنَزَلُوا عَنْهَا فَلَمْ تَحْمِلْ تِلْكَ السَّنَةَ شَيْئًا فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ ”إِنَّمَا هُوَ ظَنٌّ ظَنَنْتُهُ إِنْ كَانَ يُغْنِي شَيْئًا فَاصْنَعُوا فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ وَالظَّنُّ يُخْطِئُ وَيُصِيبُ وَلَكِنْ مَا قُلْتُ لَكُمْ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَلَنْ أَكْذِبَ عَلَى اللَّهِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Talha (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I passed by an orchard in Madinah Munawwarah with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he saw that people were placing the pollen of one date palm onto another. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired, "What are these people doing?" Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "They are placing the male pollen onto the female date palm to increase its yield." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I think there is no benefit in this." When this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached those people, they abandoned this practice and came down from the trees, and that year the date palms did not bear fruit. When this was reported to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "That was merely my own opinion. If this practice benefits you, then do it. I am only a human being like you, and my opinion can be right or wrong. However, if I convey to you something from Allah, then I would never lie about Allah."
