خَاتِمَةٌ فِي فَضَائِلِ الشَّجَرِ وَغَرْسِهِ خُصُوصًا النخيل
Conclusion regarding the virtues of trees and planting them, especially date palms
Hadith 12766
وَعَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: صَحِبْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا حَدِيثًا، كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُتِيَ بِجُمَّارَةٍ فَقَالَ: ”إِنَّ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ شَجَرَةً مَثَلُهَا كَمَثَلِ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ“، فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ: هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ، فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا أَنَا أَصْغَرُ الْقَوْمِ فَسَكَتُّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ“
It is narrated from Mujahid, he says: I traveled with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) up to Madinah Munawwarah. During the journey, I heard only one hadith from him. He said: We were present with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the pulp of a date palm was presented. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Among the trees, there is a tree whose example is like that of a Muslim. I wanted to say that this tree refers to the date palm, but I saw that I was the youngest among those present in the gathering, so I remained silent. Later, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself said that it is the date palm.
Hadith 12767
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”إِنِّي لَأَعْرِفُ شَجَرَةً بَرَكَتُهَا كَالرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ، هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I know of a tree whose blessing is like that of a Muslim, and it is the date palm tree.
Hadith 12768
(وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا) عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ”إِنَّ مَثَلَ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ شَجَرَةٍ لَا يَسْقُطُ وَرَقُهَا، فَمَا هِيَ؟“، قَالَ: فَقَالُوا وَقَالُوا فَلَمْ يُصِيبُوا، وَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ: هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ، فَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ“
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The example of a believer is like a tree whose leaves do not fall. Which tree could that be? Sayyiduna Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, says: People mentioned the names of various trees, but they could not give the correct answer. I intended to say that it is the date palm tree, but I hesitated. Finally, the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: It is the date palm tree.
Hadith 12769
(وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا) قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ شَجَرَةٍ لَا تَطْرَحُ وَرَقَهَا“، قَالَ: فَوَقَعَ النَّاسُ فِي شَجَرِ الْبَدْوِ، وَوَقَعَ فِي قَلْبِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ، فَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ“، قَالَ: فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا بُنَيَّ! مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَتَكَلَّمَ، فَوَاللَّهِ! لَأَنْ تَكُونَ قُلْتَ ذَلِكَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لِي كَذَا وَكَذَا
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The example of a believer is like a tree whose leaves do not fall. People began to speculate about the various trees of the forest; it occurred to me that it is the date palm tree, but due to being young, I hesitated to speak. Finally, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: It is the date palm tree. Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, says: I mentioned this to Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, so he said: Son! What prevented you from speaking? By Allah! If you had said this there, it would have been more beloved to me today than anything else.
