The third chapter regarding the virtue of residing in Madinah, patience with its hardships, the dislike of leaving it out of aversion, and that it expels impurity from itself
14 hadith
Hadith 12635
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I have declared the land between the two Harrahs of Madinah as a sanctuary; no shrub should be cut from here and no game should be hunted. He also said: Madinah is better for those people, if only they knew this; whoever leaves here out of aversion, Allah brings someone better than him in his place. Whoever endures the hardships and difficulties of this place with patience, I will be a witness or an intercessor for him on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 12636
. (Second chain) A similar hadith is narrated, however, with this addition: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Just as Ibrahim (peace be upon him) made the Haram a sanctuary so that no shrub should be cut from here, no hunting should be done here, and whoever leaves here turning away, Allah brings someone better than him in his place. Whoever intends evil against the people of Madinah, Allah will melt him as brass is melted in fire or as salt dissolves in water.
Hadith 12637
Mawla Zubair Yahnas narrates, he says: I was sitting with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when his maid came to him and complained about the severity of the circumstances. She wanted to leave Madinah and go somewhere else. Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: Sit down, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that whoever among you patiently endures the hardships and difficulties that occur in Madinah Munawwarah, I will be an intercessor or a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 12638
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever has the ability that death comes to him in Madinah, he should certainly strive for it, because I will intercede on behalf of those who die here.
Hadith 12639
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that Abu al-Qasim, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, said: Some people will turn away from Madinah and leave from here, although Madinah would be better for them, if only they knew this.
Hadith 12640
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: When the land of prosperity and abundance is conquered, some people will move there along with their friends, although residing in Madinah would be better for them, if only they knew. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said this twice.
Hadith 12641
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Many other regions and cities will be conquered, so some people will say to their brothers: Come, let us go there, there is prosperity there, although residing in Madinah would be better for them, if they knew. Whoever endures hardships and difficulties in Madinah with patience, I will be a witness or an intercessor for him on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 12642
It is narrated from Basar bin Saeed that he was in a gathering of the people of Banulais, where it was being mentioned that Sufyan told them that his horse became unable to walk in the valley of Aqeeq. At that time, he was in a detachment sent by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Due to his compulsion, he returned to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to get another mount. Those people mentioned that Sufyan said that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, went out with him to search for a camel for him. You found a camel with Abu Juham bin Hudhaifah Adawi, may Allah be pleased with him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, spoke to him to buy it, so he said: O Messenger of Allah! I do not give you this camel for a price, rather you may take it as you wish and grant it to whomever you wish. Sayyiduna Sufyan says: You took that camel from him and departed from there. When you reached Bi’ra Haab, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: It is hoped that the population of Madinah will reach here, and it is hoped that the land of Shaam will be conquered. The people of Madinah will go there and they will like the prosperity there, although if they knew, residing in Madinah would be better for them. Then Iraq will be conquered, these people will return, driving their animals and along with their families and companions, will move there, although residing in Madinah would be better for them, if they knew this. Ibrahim, peace be upon him, prayed for blessings for the people of Makkah, and I pray to Allah Almighty that just as He blessed the people of Makkah, He may also bless our Saa’ and Mudd.
Hadith 12643
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A time will come when people, in search of prosperity, will migrate from Madinah and go here and there. When they find prosperity there, they will eventually take their families there as well, although if they knew, Madinah would still be better for them in any case.
Hadith 12644
Mawla-e-Mehri narrates from Abu Saeed, he says: My brother passed away, I went to the service of Sayyiduna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), I said: Abu Saeed! My brother has passed away, he has left behind family and children, I also have my own family and children, we do not have much wealth, I have intended to take my and my brother’s family and children to another area so that our economic conditions may improve there. He said: Woe to you, do not leave Madinah. I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that whoever endures the hardships and difficulties that come upon Madinah with patience, I will be an intercessor or a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 12645
. (Second chain) Abu Sa'id went to Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) during the days of the Harrah incident and consulted him about migrating from Madinah, and narrated the incident mentioned in the above hadith. In the end, it is stated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will be an intercessor or a witness on the Day of Resurrection on behalf of the one (who endures the hardships and calamities that befall in Madinah), provided that he is a Muslim.
Hadith 12646
It is narrated from Sa'id bin Musayyib that Sayyida Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her) states: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever endures the calamities and hardships that befall in Madinah with patience, I will be an intercessor or a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 12647
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and pledged allegiance to Islam. Later, he developed a fever. He came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Release me from my pledge." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused. He came again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again refused. He said: "Release me from my pledge," and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inquired about him, and the companions informed him that he had left. Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Medina is like a furnace; it expels bad people and reveals good people."
Hadith 12648
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), accepted Islam, and pledged allegiance to you (peace and blessings be upon him) on migration. Only a short time had passed when he came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Return my pledge of allegiance to me, ..." Then the rest of the narration was mentioned.
