الْبَابُ الثَّانِي فِي فَضْلِ الْقَرْنِ الأَوَّلِ وَالثَّانِي
The second chapter regarding the virtue of the first and second generations
Hadith 12521
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! أَيُّ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ؟ قَالَ: ”أَنَا وَمَنْ مَعِي.“ قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لَهُ: ثُمَّ مَنْ؟ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ!، قَالَ: ”الَّذِي عَلَى الْأَثَرِ.“ قِيلَ لَهُ: ثُمَّ مَنْ؟ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ!، قَالَ: فَرَفَضَهُمْ.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Who are the most virtuous among the people?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Myself and those with me." Then it was asked, "Who are the most virtuous after them?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Those who come after them." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, "Who are after them?" So he left (i.e., remained silent).
Hadith 12522
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: ”خَيْرُكُمْ قَرْنِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ.“ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: لَا أَدْرِي ذَكَرَ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا، ”ثُمَّ خَلَفَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ قَوْمٌ يُحِبُّونَ السَّمَانَةَ، يَشْهَدُونَ وَلَا يُسْتَشْهَدُونَ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best time for you is my era, then the one after that." Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, says: "I do not know whether he, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned this twice or three times." Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "After that, there will come people who will love obesity and will give testimonies without being asked for them."
Hadith 12523
(وَعَنْهَا أَيْضًا) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”خَيْرُ أُمَّتِي الْقَرْنُ الَّذِي بُعِثْتُ فِيهِمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ.“ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ أَقَالَ الثَّالِثَةَ أَمْ لَا، ”ثُمَّ يَجِيءُ قَوْمٌ يُحِبُّونَ السَّمَانَةَ يَشْهَدُونَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْتَشْهَدُوا.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The best era of my Ummah is the one in which I have been sent, then the era after that will be superior, then the one after that. Allah knows best whether the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned the third era after that or not. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: After that, there will come people who will love obesity and they will bear witness when their testimony is not requested.
Hadith 12524
عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْلَى قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَسِيرُ بِالْأَهْوَازِ إِذَا أَنَا بِرَجُلٍ يَسِيرُ بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ عَلَى بَغْلٍ أَوْ بَغْلَةٍ، فَإِذَا هُوَ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ ذَهَبَ قَرْنِي مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ فَأَلْحِقْنِي بِهِمْ، فَقُلْتُ: وَأَنَا فَأَدْخِلْ فِي دَعْوَتِكَ، قَالَ: وَصَاحِبِي هَذَا إِنْ أَرَادَ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ”خَيْرُ أُمَّتِي قَرْنِي مِنْهُمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ.“ قَالَ: وَلَا أَدْرِي أَذَكَرَ الثَّالِثَ أَمْ لَا، ”ثُمَّ تَخْلُفُ أَقْوَامٌ يَظْهَرُ فِيهِمُ السِّمَنُ، يُهْرِيقُونَ الشَّهَادَةَ وَلَا يَسْأَلُونَهَا.“ قَالَ: وَإِذَا هُوَ بُرَيْدَةُ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ.
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Mula, he says: I was walking in Ahwaz and ahead of me there was a man riding a mule, saying: O Allah, my time in this Ummah has been completed, now unite me with my companions. When I heard his words, I said: And me too, include me in your prayer as well. He said: O Allah! Let this companion of mine also be with me, if he also desires this. Then he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The best of my Ummah is my time, then those who come after them. Now I do not know whether the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned the third generation or not. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: After that, such people will come among whom obesity will be common, they will not be asked for testimony, but they will give testimony. This man was Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami, may Allah be pleased with him.
