A great Sheikh of the tribe of Banu Aqil, Abdul Majeed Aqili, narrated that during the days when Yazid bin Muhallab rebelled against Yazid bin Abdul Malik, we went for Hajj. In those days, a place called Az-Zajeej in the vicinity of Al-Aaliyah was mentioned before us. When we completed the rites of Hajj, we reached Az-Zajeej. There, we made our mounts sit and, walking, we reached a well where some elderly people were sitting and talking. Their hair was dyed. We asked, "Where is the house of the man here who is a companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" The people told us, "Yes, he is a companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and that is his house." We went to his house and greeted him with salam. He allowed us to enter. He was an elderly man, lying down. His name was 'Ada bin Khalid Kilabi. I said, "Are you the one who had the honor of the companionship of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" He said, "Yes! If it were not night now, I would have shown you the letter that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, wrote to me." He asked, "Who are you?" We said, "We are residents of Basra." He said, "Welcome to you. What is Yazid bin Muhallab doing?" We informed him that he is there inviting towards the Book of Allah, the Exalted, and the Sunnah of the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He asked, "What is his position there?" I asked, "Whom should we support there? The people of Sham or Yazid?" He replied, "If you remain neutral and sit aside, you will attain success and prosperity." He repeated this three times and said, "On the day of Arafah, I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, standing on his mount, proclaiming in a loud voice: 'O people! What day is this?' The people said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'What month is this?' The people said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'What city is this?' The people said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'Your day today is sacred, this month is sacred, and this city is sacred. Beware! Your blood and your wealth are forbidden to one another until the Day of Resurrection, just as the sanctity of this day, this month, and this city is sacred. So, He will question you about your deeds on the day you meet Him.' Then he raised both his hands towards the sky and said, 'O Allah, bear witness! O Allah, bear witness over them!' He mentioned this several times; I do not remember how many times."
