Siyar bin Salamah Abu Minhal Ri'ahi narrates: He says, I went with my father to the service of Sayyiduna Abu Barzah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him). I was so young at that time that I had earrings in my ears. Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I praise Allah Almighty that I keep reproaching the Quraysh for their actions. Here is so-and-so and so-and-so, who fight for the sake of worldly gain. His indication was towards Abdul Malik bin Marwan, until he also mentioned the name of Ibn al-Azraq. Then he said: Of all the people, I like those most who wear patched garments, whose bellies are empty of the wealth of Muslims, and on whose backs the blood of a Muslim is not loaded. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The rulers will be from the Quraysh, the rulers will be from the Quraysh, the rulers will be from the Quraysh. I have a right over them, and they have a right over you, as long as they do three things: that they judge with justice and fairness, that if mercy is appealed from them, they show mercy, and if they make agreements, they fulfill them. So whoever among them does not do these things, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people.
