الْبَابُ الثَّالِثُ فِي بِنَائِهِ الْكَعْبَةِ كَمَا كَانَ يَرْجُو النبي ﷺ
The third chapter regarding his rebuilding of the Kaaba as the Prophet (peace be upon him) wished
Hadith 12445
عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ قَالَ قَالَ لِي ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ حَدِّثْنِي بَعْضَ مَا كَانَتْ تُسِرُّ إِلَيْكَ أُمُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَرُبَّ شَيْءٍ كَانَتْ تُحَدِّثُكَ بِهِ تَكْتُمُهُ النَّاسَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَقَدْ حَدَّثَتْنِي حَدِيثًا حَفِظْتُ أَوَّلَهُ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”لَوْلَا أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حَدِيثٌ عَهْدُهُمْ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ أَوْ قَالَ بِكُفْرٍ قَالَ يَقُولُ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ لَنَقَضْتُ الْكَعْبَةَ فَجَعَلْتُ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ فِي الْأَرْضِ بَابًا يُدْخَلُ مِنْهُ وَبَابًا يُخْرَجُ مِنْهُ“ قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ فَأَنَا رَأَيْتُهَا كَذَلِكَ
It is narrated from Aswad, he says: Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: Tell me those things which Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to tell you privately and which she used to hide from the people. Aswad said: She told me one thing, the beginning of which I remember well. She said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Aisha! If your people had not recently embraced Islam, I would have demolished the structure of the Ka'bah and rebuilt it, and I would have made two doors at its level, one for entering and the other for exiting. Abu Ishaq says: I have seen the House of Allah built in this manner.
Hadith 12446
عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مِينَاءَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ يَقُولُ حَدَّثَتْنِي خَالَتِي عَائِشَةُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهَا ”لَوْلَا أَنَّ قَوْمَكِ حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِشِرْكٍ أَوْ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ لَهَدَمْتُ الْكَعْبَةَ فَأَلْزَقْتُهَا بِالْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلْتُ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ بَابًا شَرْقِيًّا وَبَابًا غَرْبِيًّا وَزِدْتُ فِيهَا مِنَ الْحِجْرِ سِتَّةَ أَذْرُعٍ فَإِنَّ قُرَيْشًا اقْتَصَرَتْهَا حِينَ بَنَتْ الْكَعْبَةَ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), who says: My aunt, Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), related to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: If your people had not only recently abandoned polytheism or ignorance, that is, disbelief, I would have demolished the Ka'bah and leveled it with the ground, and I would have made two doors for it in such a way that one would be towards the east and the other towards the west, and I would have included a space of six cubits from the Hijr, that is, Hatim, into the House of Allah, because when the Quraysh rebuilt it, due to lack of resources, they could not include that part in the construction of the Ka'bah.
Hadith 12447
عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”لَوْ كَانَ عِنْدَنَا سَعَةٌ لَهَدَمْتُ الْكَعْبَةَ وَلَبَنَيْتُهَا وَلَجَعَلْتُ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ بَابًا يَدْخُلُ النَّاسُ مِنْهُ وَبَابًا يَخْرُجُونَ مِنْهُ“ قَالَتْ فَلَمَّا وَلِيَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ هَدَمَهَا فَجَعَلَ لَهَا بَابَيْنِ قَالَتْ فَكَانَتْ كَذَلِكَ فَلَمَّا ظَهَرَ الْحَجَّاجُ عَلَيْهِ هَدَمَهَا وَأَعَادَ بِنَاءَهَا الْأَوَّلَ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If we had the strength, I would demolish the Kaaba and rebuild it anew, and I would make two doors for it—people would enter through one door and exit through the other. Then, when Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) became the ruler, he demolished it and made two doors for it according to the wish of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). But after him, when the era of Hajjaj came, he demolished it again and rebuilt it on its previous foundations.
Hadith 12448
عَنْ أَبِي قَزَعَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بَيْنَمَا هُوَ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ إِذْ قَالَ قَاتَلَ اللَّهُ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ حَيْثُ يَكْذِبُ عَلَى أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُهَا وَهِيَ تَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”يَا عَائِشَةُ لَوْلَا حَدْثَانُ قَوْمِكِ بِالْكُفْرِ لَنَقَبْتُ الْبَيْتَ“ قَالَ أَبِي قَالَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ”لَنَقَضْتُ الْبَيْتَ حَتَّى أَزِيدَ فِيهِ مِنَ الْحِجْرِ فَإِنَّ قَوْمَكِ قَصَّرُوا عَنِ الْبِنَاءِ“ فَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ لَا تَقُلْ هَذَا يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَأَنَا سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ تُحَدِّثُ هَذَا فَقَالَ لَوْ كُنْتُ سَمِعْتُ هَذَا قَبْلَ أَنْ أَهْدِمَهُ لَتَرَكْتُهُ عَلَى بِنَاءِ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ
It is narrated from Abu Qaza’ah that Abdul Malik was performing Tawaf of the House of Allah, during which he said: May Allah destroy Ibn Zubair, he fabricates lies against Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and says that she heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: If your people had not only recently abandoned disbelief and embraced Islam, I would have demolished the House of Allah and included a portion of Hatim within it; when your people, the Quraysh, rebuilt it, they could not complete its construction. Upon hearing this, Harith bin Abdullah bin Abi Rabi’ah said: O Commander of the Faithful! Do not say this, for I myself heard the Lady (may Allah be pleased with her) narrate this hadith. Abdul Malik said: If I had heard this before demolishing the Ka’bah, I would have left the House of Allah as Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) had constructed it.
