When Yazid bin Muawiyah passed away, Dahhak bin Qais wrote a letter to Qais bin Haitham, the contents of which were as follows: Peace be upon you. As for what follows! I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Before the Day of Judgment, there will be severe and terrifying tribulations like pieces of a dark night, and some tribulations will be like pieces of smoke. Then people's hearts will die just as bodies die. A man will begin the morning as a believer and end the evening as a disbeliever, and a man will be a believer in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning, and people will begin to sell their religion and morals for the sake of the world. Yazid bin Muawiyah has passed away, and you are our brother. Do not precede us in any matter until we ourselves have chosen something for ourselves.
