It is narrated from Abu Shurayh Khuza'i that when Amr bin Sa'id sent an army towards Makkah to confront Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), Abu Shurayh (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and spoke with him, and he conveyed to him what he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). After that, he returned to his people and sat among them, so I also got up and sat with him. He then narrated to the people everything he had told Amr bin Sa'id from what he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and also what Amr bin Sa'id had replied. He said: I told him: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah, the very next day the Banu Khuza'ah attacked a man from Banu Hudhayl and killed him. The slain man was a polytheist. In another narration, it is mentioned that during the time of ignorance, he had killed one of their men, so they took revenge, as they had been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. After this incident, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us to deliver a sermon. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Since the day Allah created the heavens and the earth, He has declared Makkah sacred, so according to Allah's decree, it will remain a sanctuary until the Day of Resurrection. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, it is not lawful for him to shed anyone's blood unjustly in this city, nor to cut down any of its trees. No one before me or after me has been permitted to fight in it, and even I was only given permission for a short period due to the anger of the people of Makkah. Beware! Its sanctity has now returned as it was yesterday. Beware! Whoever among you is present here should convey this message to those who are not present. If anyone says to you that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fought in Makkah, then say to him: Allah permitted His Messenger to fight in Makkah, but He has not permitted you. O family of Khuza'ah! Restrain your hands from killing; this act has been enough. You have killed one man; I will pay his blood money. After this time, if anyone is killed, his heirs will have the choice of two best options: if they wish, they may kill the murderer, or if they wish, they may accept blood money. After that, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) paid the blood money for the man whom Banu Khuza'ah had killed. After hearing this entire hadith, Amr bin Sa'id said to Abu Shurayh (may Allah be pleased with him): O old man! Go, go, we know the sanctity of Makkah better than you. This sanctity is not for those who shed blood unjustly, turn away from obedience, or for any criminal. Abu Shurayh (may Allah be pleased with him) said that after hearing this from Amr, I said to him: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated this hadith, I was present there, you were not, and I have conveyed this hadith to you because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us that whoever among us is present should convey this message to those who were not present at that time. I have conveyed this message to you; now it is up to you and your actions. Abdullah bin Imam Ahmad says: I found this hadith written in my father's book in his own handwriting.

. (Second chain) It is narrated from Saeed Maqbari that when Amr bin Saeed was sending an army towards Makkah, Abu Shurayh Al-Adawi said to him: O Amir! Allow me to tell you the things that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said in his sermon the day after the conquest of Makkah, which my ears heard and my heart remembered. When you said these things, my eyes were looking at you. After praising Allah Almighty, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has declared Makkah sacred, ... . Then he mentioned a narration similar to the previous narration.
