The Fourth Virtue Regarding the Saying of the Prophet ﷺ to Imam Ali, may Allah be pleased with him: "You are to me as Harun was to Musa," etc.

Hadith 12312
وَعَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ عَنْ حَدِيثٍ وَأَنَا أَهَابُكَ أَنْ أَسْأَلَكَ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ لَا تَفْعَلْ يَا ابْنَ أَخِي إِذَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ عِنْدِي عِلْمًا فَسَلْنِي عَنْهُ وَلَا تَهَبْنِي قَالَ فَقُلْتُ قَوْلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعَلِيٍّ حِينَ خَلَّفَهُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ خَلَّفَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلِيًّا بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَتُخَلِّفُنِي فِي الْخَالِفَةِ فِي النِّسَاءِ وَالصِّبْيَانِ فَقَالَ ”أَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى“ قَالَ بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَأَدْبَرَ عَلِيٌّ مُسْرِعًا كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى غُبَارِ قَدَمَيْهِ يَسْطَعُ وَقَدْ قَالَ حَمَّادٌ فَرَجَعَ عَلِيٌّ مُسْرِعًا
It is narrated from Saeed bin Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him), he says: I said to Sa’d bin Malik, that is, our master Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him): I want to ask you about a hadith, but I am also in awe of you. He said: Nephew! Do not do so, if you know that I have knowledge of something, then ask me and do not be afraid of me. I said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left our master Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) behind in Madinah on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, what did he say? Our master Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left our master Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) behind in Madinah on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, he (Ali) said: O Messenger of Allah! Are you leaving me behind among the children and women who stay behind? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you not pleased that your relationship to me is like that of Harun (peace be upon him) to Musa (peace be upon him)? He said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! Upon hearing the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), our master Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) happily and swiftly returned, as if even now I can see the dust rising from his feet. The words of the narrator Hammad are: Upon hearing this, our master Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) swiftly returned.
Hadith 12313
وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ خَرَجَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى جَاءَ ثَنِيَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ وَعَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَبْكِي يَقُولُ تُخَلِّفُنِي مَعَ الْخَوَالِفِ فَقَالَ ”أَوَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى إِلَّا النُّبُوَّةَ“
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that he went out with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Thaniyyah al-Wada', Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said while weeping: "You are leaving me behind among those who remain, that is, women and children." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you not pleased that your relation to me is like that of Harun (peace be upon him) to Musa (peace be upon him), except that there is no Prophethood after me?"
Hadith 12314
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَمَّا أَرَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُخَلِّفَ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ مَا يَقُولُ النَّاسُ فِيَّ إِذَا خَلَّفْتَنِي قَالَ فَقَالَ ”مَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بَعْدِي نَبِيٌّ أَوْ لَا يَكُونُ بَعْدِي نَبِيٌّ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that (on the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk) when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to leave Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) behind, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If you leave me behind like this, what will people say about me? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you not pleased that your relation to me is like that of Harun (peace be upon him) to Musa (peace be upon him), except that there will be no prophet after me?
Hadith 12315
عَنْ مُوسَى الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ عَلِيٍّ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَفِيقِي أَبُو سَهْلٍ كَمْ لَكِ قَالَتْ سِتَّةٌ وَثَمَانُونَ سَنَةً قَالَ مَا سَمِعْتِ مِنْ أَبِيكِ شَيْئًا قَالَتْ حَدَّثَتْنِي أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ عُمَيْسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ ”أَنْتَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بَعْدِي نَبِيٌّ“
It is narrated from Musa Jahni, he says: I went to Fatimah bint Ali, my companion Abu Sahl asked her: How old are you? She said: Eighty-six years. Abu Sahl asked: What have you heard about your father (Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him)? She said: Sayyidah Asma bint Umais, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him: "Your position to me is like that of Harun (Aaron) to Musa (Moses), except that there is no prophet after me."
