Hadith 12292
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ اشْتَكَى عَلِيًّا النَّاسُ قَالَ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِينَا خَطِيبًا فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ ”أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَا تَشْكُوا عَلِيًّا فَوَاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَأَخْشَنُ فِي ذَاتِ اللَّهِ أَوْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that people complained about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up to deliver a sermon and said: O people! Do not complain about Ali. He is very strict regarding Allah's essence or in the way of Allah Almighty.
Hadith 12293
عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شَأْسٍ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ قَالَ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ عَلِيٍّ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ فَجَفَانِي فِي سَفَرِي ذَلِكَ حَتَّى وَجَدْتُ فِي نَفْسِي عَلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ أَظْهَرْتُ شِكَايَتَهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ ذَاتَ غُدْوَةٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَاسٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَلَمَّا رَآنِي أَمَدَّنِي عَيْنَيْهِ يَقُولُ حَدَّدَ إِلَيَّ النَّظَرَ حَتَّى إِذَا جَلَسْتُ قَالَ ”يَا عَمْرُو وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ آذَيْتَنِي“ قُلْتُ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ أَنْ أُوذِيَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ”بَلَى مَنْ آذَى عَلِيًّا فَقَدْ آذَانِي“
Sayyiduna Amr ibn Shas Aslami, may Allah be pleased with him, who was among the Companions of Hudaybiyyah, narrates: He says, I went towards Yemen in the company of Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him. During the journey, he was somewhat harsh with me, which caused me great discomfort in my heart. When I returned, I openly complained about him in the mosque. This matter reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. One day, I entered the mosque in the morning, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was sitting with his Companions. When he saw me, he fixed his gaze upon me. Then, when I sat down, he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O Amr! By Allah! You have caused me pain. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I seek refuge with Allah from causing you any harm. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Yes, whoever has hurt Ali has in fact caused me pain.
Hadith 12294
عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ حُبْشِيِّ بْنِ جُنَادَةَ قَالَ يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ السَّلُولِيُّ وَكَانَ قَدْ شَهِدَ يَوْمَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”عَلِيٌّ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ وَلَا يُؤَدِّي عَنِّي إِلَّا أَنَا أَوْ عَلِيٌّ“ وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ ”لَا يَقْضِي عَنِّي دَيْنِي إِلَّا أَنَا أَوْ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ“
Sayyiduna Yahya bin Adam Sululi, may Allah be pleased with him, who was present at the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Ali is from me and I am from Ali. On my behalf, either I will fulfill (the obligation) myself, or Ali will fulfill it." The wording of Ibn Abi Bakir's narration is: "I will pay my debt myself or Ali will pay it on my behalf."
Hadith 12295
وَعَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لِعَلِيٍّ ”لَا يُبْغِضُكَ مُؤْمِنٌ وَلَا يُحِبُّكَ مُنَافِقٌ“
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to our master Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): No believer can harbor enmity towards you, and no hypocrite can love you.
Hadith 12296
عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجَدَلِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَتْ لِي أَيُسَبُّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيكُمْ قُلْتُ مَعَاذَ اللَّهِ أَوْ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ أَوْ كَلِمَةً نَحْوَهَا قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ”مَنْ سَبَّ عَلِيًّا فَقَدْ سَبَّنِي“
Abu Abdullah Jadali says: I went to the service of Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her). She said to me: Is it true that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is being spoken ill of among you? I said: I seek refuge with Allah, or I said: Glory be to Allah! How astonishing, or I said some similar words, (how could it be that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, is spoken ill of). She said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever speaks ill of Ali has certainly spoken ill of me.
Hadith 12297
وَعَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ وَاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ مِمَّا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ”إِنَّهُ لَا يُبْغِضُنِي إِلَّا مُنَافِقٌ وَلَا يُحِبُّنِي إِلَّا مُؤْمِنٌ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: By Allah! Among the things that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told me specifically was this: Only a hypocrite will harbor enmity towards me, and only a believer will love me.
Hadith 12298
عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَسَدِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ الْأَقْرَبِينَ} [الشعراء: 214] قَالَ جَمَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ فَاجْتَمَعَ ثَلَاثُونَ فَأَكَلُوا وَشَرِبُوا قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ ”مَنْ يَضْمَنُ عَنِّي دَيْنِي وَمَوَاعِيدِي وَيَكُونُ مَعِي فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَيَكُونُ خَلِيفَتِي فِي أَهْلِي“ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يُسَمِّهِ شَرِيكٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْتَ كُنْتَ بَحْرًا مَنْ يَقُومُ بِهَذَا قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِآخَرَ قَالَ فَعَرَضَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: When this verse {وَأَنْذِرْ عَشِیرَتَکَ الْأَقْرَبِینَ} … "And warn your nearest relatives" was revealed, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered the people of his family, thirty people gathered, they ate and drank, after that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: Who among you will guarantee the repayment of my debts and the fulfillment of my promises, as a result of which he will be with me in Paradise and will be my successor among my family? One man replied: O Messenger of Allah! You are like an ocean, who can fulfill these responsibilities? Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to someone else as well. Then when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) presented this matter to his household, Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes, I guarantee it.
Hadith 12299
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ صَلَّى مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ خَدِيجَةَ عَلِيٌّ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً أَسْلَمَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that after Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), the first person to perform prayer with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), or after her, the first to accept Islam, was Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 12300
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي زَمَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ خَيْرُ النَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرُ وَلَقَدْ أُوتِيَ ابْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ لَأَنْ تَكُونَ لِي وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ حُمْرِ النَّعَمِ زَوَّجَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ابْنَتَهُ وَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ وَسَدَّ الْأَبْوَابَ إِلَّا بَابَهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَأَعْطَاهُ الرَّايَةَ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: In the time of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is the most virtuous of all people, after him is Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and after him is Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). And Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was granted three such distinctions that if I had received even one of them, it would have been dearer to me than red camels: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married his daughter to him, his offspring came from him, and the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered all the doors opening into the mosque to be closed except his door, and on the day of Khaybar, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him the flag.
Hadith 12301
وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الرَّقِيمِ الْكِنَانِيِّ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ زَمَنَ الْجَمَلِ فَلَقِينَا سَعْدَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ بِهَا فَقَالَ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِسَدِّ الْأَبْوَابِ الشَّارِعَةِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَتَرْكِ بَابِ عَلِيٍّ
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Raqeem Kanani, he says: During the days of the Battle of Jamal, we set out towards Madinah Munawwarah and met Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had ordered that all the doors opening towards the mosque should be closed, except for the door of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), which was allowed to remain open.
Hadith 12302
عَنْ أَبِي حَسَّانَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْأَمْرِ فَيُؤْتَى فَيُقَالُ قَدْ فَعَلْنَا كَذَا وَكَذَا فَيَقُولُ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ الْأَشْتَرُ إِنَّ هَذَا الَّذِي تَقُولُ قَدْ تَفَشَّى فِي النَّاسِ أَفَشَيْءٌ عَهِدَهُ إِلَيْكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا خَاصَّةً دُونَ النَّاسِ إِلَّا شَيْءٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْهُ فَهُوَ فِي صَحِيفَةٍ فِي قِرَابِ سَيْفِي قَالَ فَلَمْ يَزَالُوا بِهِ حَتَّى أَخْرَجَ الصَّحِيفَةَ قَالَ فَإِذَا فِيهَا ”مَنْ أَحْدَثَ حَدَثًا أَوْ آوَى مُحْدِثًا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهُ صَرْفٌ وَلَا عَدْلٌ قَالَ وَإِذَا فِيهَا إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَرَّمَ مَكَّةَ وَإِنِّي أُحَرِّمُ الْمَدِينَةَ حَرَامٌ مَا بَيْنَ حَرَّتَيْهَا وَحِمَاهَا كُلُّهُ لَا يُخْتَلَى خَلَاهَا وَلَا يُنَفَّرُ صَيْدُهَا وَلَا تُلْتَقَطُ لُقَطَتُهَا إِلَّا لِمَنْ أَشَارَ بِهَا وَلَا تُقْطَعُ مِنْهَا شَجَرَةٌ إِلَّا أَنْ يَعْلِفَ رَجُلٌ بَعِيرَهُ وَبُجْمَلُ فِيهَا السِّلَاحُ لِقِتَالٍ وَقَالَ وَإِذَا فِيهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ تَتَكَافَأُ دِمَاؤُهُمْ وَيَسْعَى بِذِمَّتِهِمْ أَدْنَاهُمْ وَهُمْ يَدٌ عَلَى مَنْ سِوَاهُمْ أَلَا لَا يُقْتَلُ مُؤْمِنٌ بِكَافِرٍ وَلَا ذُو عَهْدٍ فِي عَهْدِهِ“
It is narrated from Abu Hassan that when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) would order someone to do a task, after completing it, people would come and say, “We have done that task.” Upon hearing this, he would say: “Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have spoken the truth.” Ashtar said to him: “This statement of yours has now become common among the people. If Allah’s Messenger has said something to you, then please state it.” Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say anything to me specifically, apart from the general people, except for one thing which I heard from him, and it is written and present in the sheath of my sword.” The people insisted on it until he took out that writing. It was written in it: “Whoever initiates a bid’ah (innovation) or gives refuge to an innovator, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Neither his obligatory nor his voluntary worship will be accepted.” And it was also written in it: “Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) declared Makkah as sacred, and I declare Madinah Munawwarah as a sanctuary; the entire area between its two fields is sacred. Its pasture grass should not be cut, its game should not be chased away, and its lost property should not be picked up except by one who will announce it. (He may pick it up.) None of its trees should be cut, except that a man may feed leaves to his camel. Weapons should not be raised in it for fighting.” In that document, it was also written: “The blood of the Muslims is equal. Even the lowest among them can grant protection. They are united and a single group against the disbelievers. A believer will not be killed in exchange for a disbeliever, nor will a dhimmi be killed during his covenant.”
Hadith 12303
عَنْ مَيْمُونٍ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ نَزَلْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِوَادٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ وَادِي خُمٍّ فَأَمَرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَصَلَّاهَا بِهَجِيرٍ قَالَ فَخَطَبَنَا وَظُلِّلَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِثَوْبٍ عَلَى شَجَرَةِ سَمُرَةٍ مِنَ الشَّمْسِ فَقَالَ ”أَلَسْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ أَوْ لَسْتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ أَنِّي أَوْل اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ وَرَسُولُهُ“ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ ”فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَإِنَّ عَلِيًّا مَوْلَاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We descended with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a valley, which was called the valley of Khumm. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered for prayer and led us in the Zuhr prayer in the intense heat. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us, and to protect him from the sun, a cloth was placed over an acacia tree to provide shade for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you not know, or do you not bear witness, that I am closer to every believer than his own self? The companions said: Yes, indeed. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whomever I am a friend to, Ali is also his friend. O Allah! Show enmity to the one who shows enmity to Ali, and befriend the one who befriends Ali.
Hadith 12304
عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ اسْتَشْهَدَ عَلِيٌّ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ أَنْشُدُ اللَّهَ رَجُلًا سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ”اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ“ قَالَ فَقَامَ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَشَهِدُوا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the people for testimony and said: I beseech by Allah the one who heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: O Allah! Whosoever I am his friend, Ali is also his friend. O Allah! Befriend whoever befriends Ali, and show enmity to whoever shows enmity to Ali. Upon hearing this, sixteen men stood up and testified (that indeed they had heard this hadith from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 12305
عَنْ رِيَاحِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ جَاءَ رَهْطٌ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ بِالرَّحْبَةِ فَقَالُوا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلَانَا قَالَ كَيْفَ أَكُونُ مَوْلَاكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَرَبٌ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ يَقُولُ ”مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَإِنَّ هَذَا مَوْلَاهُ“ قَالَ رِيَاحٌ فَلَمَّا مَضَوْا تَبِعْتُهُمْ فَسَأَلْتُ مَنْ هَؤُلَاءِ قَالُوا نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فِيهِمْ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ قَوْمًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ قَدِمُوا عَلَى عَلِيٍّ فِي الرَّحْبَةِ فَقَالَ مَنِ الْقَوْمُ قَالَ مَوَالِيكَ أَيْ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ
It is narrated from Riyah bin Harith that a group of people came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) at the place of Rahbah and they said: O our master! Peace be upon you. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: How can I be your master, when you are an Arab people? Those people said: We heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say at the occasion of Ghadir Khumm: "Whoever I am the master of, Ali is also his master." Riyah says: When those people left, I followed them and asked: Who are these people? The people informed me that they are Ansar, and among them was Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him).
(Second chain) Riyah says: I saw a group of Ansar, they came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) at Rahbah. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Who are you people? They said, O Commander of the Faithful! We are your friends, then he mentioned a hadith with the same meaning as mentioned above.
(Second chain) Riyah says: I saw a group of Ansar, they came to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) at Rahbah. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Who are you people? They said, O Commander of the Faithful! We are your friends, then he mentioned a hadith with the same meaning as mentioned above.
Hadith 12306
عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى قَالَ شَهِدْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي الرَّحْبَةِ يَنْشُدُ النَّاسَ أَنْشُدُ اللَّهَ مَنْ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ ”مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ“ لَمَّا قَامَ فَشَهِدَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ فَقَامَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ بَدْرِيًّا كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَحَدِهِمْ فَقَالُوا نَشْهَدُ أَنَّا سَمِعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ ”أَلَسْتُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَأَزْوَاجِي أُمَّهَاتُهُمْ“ فَقُلْنَا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ”فَمَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ“
It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila, he says: I was present in Rahbah in the service of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was urging the people by the name of Allah, saying: I ask that person by Allah, who heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say on the day of Ghadir Khumm: "Whoever's friend I am, Ali is also his friend." He should stand up and bear witness. Upon hearing this, twelve Badrī Companions stood up—I can see that scene before my eyes, as if I am seeing each one of them—they all said: We bear witness that we heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say on the day of Ghadir Khumm: "Do I not have more right over the believers than their own selves? And are my wives not their mothers?" We said: O Messenger of Allah! Certainly, it is so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever's friend I am, Ali is also his friend. O Allah! Befriend the one who befriends Ali, and be the enemy of the one who is hostile to him."
Hadith 12307
وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ آخَرَ أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فِي الرَّحْبَةِ قَالَ أَنْشُدُ اللَّهَ رَجُلًا سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَشَهِدَهُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ إِلَّا قَامَ وَلَا يَقُومُ إِلَّا مَنْ قَدْ رَآهُ فَقَامَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَقَالُوا قَدْ رَأَيْنَاهُ وَسَمِعْنَاهُ حَيْثُ أَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ يَقُولُ ”اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ وَانْصُرْ مَنْ نَصَرَهُ وَاخْذُلْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُ“ فَقَامَ إِلَّا ثَلَاثَةٌ لَمْ يَقُومُوا فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِم750 مَرَّةً فَأَصَابَتْهُمْ دَعْوَتُهُ
(Second chain) It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila, he says: I was present with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in Rahbah, and he said: I beseech that man by Allah who was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Ghadir Khumm and heard him say this, let him stand up. Upon hearing this, twelve men stood up, all of them said: We saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and heard him say this, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was also holding his (Ali’s) hand: O Allah! Befriend whoever befriends this Ali, and be the enemy of whoever is hostile to him, help whoever helps him, and forsake whoever forsakes him. Only three men did not stand up; Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) invoked a curse upon them, and his curse befell them.
Hadith 12308
عَنْ زَاذَانَ أَبِي عُمَرَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا فِي الرَّحْبَةِ وَهُوَ يَنْشُدُ النَّاسَ مَنْ شَهِدَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ مَا قَالَ فَقَامَ ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّهُمْ سَمِعُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ ”مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ“
Abu Umar Zadhan says: I saw Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in Rahbah, and he was beseeching the people by Allah, saying: Whoever was present with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Ghadir Khumm, when he said what he said (from your response, the meaning of his statement is understood), then thirteen men stood up and testified that they had heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever I am his friend, Ali is also his friend.
Hadith 12309
عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ وَعَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ يُثَيْعٍ قَالَا نَشَدَ عَلِيٌّ النَّاسَ فِي الرَّحْبَةِ مَنْ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ إِلَّا قَامَ قَالَ فَقَامَ مِنْ قِبَلِ سَعِيدٍ سِتَّةٌ وَمِنْ قِبَلِ زَيْدٍ سِتَّةٌ فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّهُمْ سَمِعُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لِعَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَوْمَ غَدِيرِ خُمٍّ ”أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ“ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ ”اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ اللَّهُمَّ وَالِ مَنْ وَالَاهُ وَعَادِ مَنْ عَادَاهُ“
Saeed bin Wahb and Zaid bin Yuthai’ say: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in Rahbah, made the people swear by Allah and said: Whoever among you heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say this hadith on the day of Ghadir Khumm, let him stand up. So, six men from Saeed’s side and six men from Zaid’s side stood up, and all of them testified that they had heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say regarding Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) on the day of Ghadir Khumm: “Does not Allah have more right over the believers?” The companions said: Yes, indeed. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O Allah! Whomever I am his friend, Ali is also his friend. O Allah! Befriend whoever befriends him, and show enmity to whoever shows enmity to him.”
Hadith 12310
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ أَنْبَأَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو مَرَّ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ يَعْنِي عَنْ سَعِيدٍ وَزَيْدٍ وَزَادَ فِيهِ ”وَانْصُرْ مَنْ نَصَرَهُ وَاخْذُلْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُ“
Saeed and Zaid also narrate this, with these additional words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: O Allah! Help the one who helps Ali, and forsake the one who forsakes him.
Hadith 12311
وَعَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ قَالَ نَشَدَ عَلِيٌّ النَّاسَ فَقَامَ خَمْسَةٌ أَوْ سِتَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَشَهِدُوا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ”مَنْ كُنْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَلِيٌّ مَوْلَاهُ“
It is narrated from Saeed bin Wahb that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) invoked Allah as a witness before the people, so five or six companions stood up and testified that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: "Whoever I am a friend to, Ali is also his friend."
