Hadith 12264
عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ الطَّائِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ قَالَ بَعَثَ عُثْمَانُ يَوْمَ الْجَرَعَةِ بِسَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ قَالَ فَخَرَجُوا إِلَيْهِ فَرَدُّوهُ قَالَ فَكُنْتُ قَاعِدًا مَعَ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ وَحُذَيْفَةَ فَقَالَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ مَا كُنْتُ أَرَى أَنْ يَرْجِعَ لَمْ يُهْرِقْ فِيهِ دَمًا قَالَ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ وَلَكِنْ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ لَتَرْجِعَنَّ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهَا لَمْ يُهْرِقْ فِيهَا مَحْجَمَةَ دَمٍ وَمَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا إِلَّا عَلِمْتُهُ وَمُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَيٌّ حَتَّى إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيُصْبِحُ مُؤْمِنًا ثُمَّ يُمْسِي مَا مَعَهُ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ وَيُمْسِي مُؤْمِنًا وَيُصْبِحُ مَا مَعَهُ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ يُقَاتِلُ فِئَتَهُ الْيَوْمَ وَيَقْتُلُهُ اللَّهُ غَدًا يَنْكُسُ قَلْبُهُ تَعْلُوهُ أَسْتُهُ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ أَسْفَلُهُ قَالَ أَسْتُهُ
It is narrated from Abu Thawr that on the day of Jar‘ah, Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sent Sayyiduna Sa‘id bin ‘As (may Allah be pleased with him), but people came to him and sent him back. I (Abu Thawr) was sitting with Sayyiduna Abu Mas‘ud and Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with them). Sayyiduna Abu Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I did not think that he would return just like that without blood being shed. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: But I knew very well that this army would return on their heels just like that without bloodshed. I have known this since the time when Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), was alive. Rather, such conditions will arise that a man will begin the morning in a state of faith, but by evening he will have been emptied of faith, and a man will begin the evening in a state of faith, but by morning nothing of faith will remain with him. A man will fight with his own group, and the next day Allah Almighty will kill him and turn his heart over, and his backside will be on top of him. I said: The lower part will be on top? He said: I am saying backside, backside.
Hadith 12265
عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ قَالَ جُنْدُبٌ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْجَرَعَةِ وَثَمَّ رَجُلٌ قَالَ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَيُهْرَاقَنَّ الْيَوْمَ دِمَاءٌ قَالَ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ كَلَّا وَاللَّهِ قَالَ هَلَّا قُلْتَ بَلَى وَاللَّهِ قَالَ كَلَّا وَاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَحَدِيثُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَنِيهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَرَاكَ جَلِيسَ سَوْءٍ مُنْذُ الْيَوْمَ تَسْمَعُنِي أَحْلِفُ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَنْهَانِي قَالَ ثُمَّ قُلْتُ مَالِي وَلِلْغَضَبِ قَالَ فَتَرَكْتُ الْغَضَبَ وَأَقْبَلْتُ أَسْأَلُهُ قَالَ وَإِذَا الرَّجُلُ حُذَيْفَةُ بْنُ الْيَمَانِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
It is narrated from Jundub, he says: On the day of Jar‘ah, there was a man there who said: By Allah! Today there will definitely, definitely be bloodshed. Hearing this, another man said: By Allah! Never. The first person said: Why did you not say, "By Allah, yes, there will definitely be bloodshed"? The second said: By Allah! It will never happen. This is a hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, which he himself narrated to me. I said: Today you are a bad companion to me. I am swearing an oath about something and you are listening to me, while you have also heard the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about this, and you are not stopping me. Then I thought, what is the need to be angry about this, so I let go of my displeasure and I rushed towards that companion and began to question him. Then it became known that man was Hudhayfah bin Yaman, may Allah be pleased with him.
