It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was placed on his bier, before he was lifted, people surrounded his bier and began to supplicate and plead for mercy for him. I was also among those people. Suddenly, a man grabbed my shoulders from behind. When I turned towards him, I saw that it was Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). He supplicated for mercy for Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "You have not left anyone after you about whom I would wish that when I meet Allah Almighty, my deeds would be like his deeds. By Allah! I am certain that Allah Almighty will surely join you with your two companions, because I often heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: 'I, Abu Bakr, and Umar went. I, Abu Bakr, and Umar entered. I, Abu Bakr, and Umar came out.' I was sure that Allah would surely join you with them."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was brought and placed between the pulpit and the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came and stood in front of the rows and said three times: May Allah’s mercy be upon you. After the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), there is no human being among Allah’s creation, apart from this shrouded man, with whom I would prefer to go to Allah with a record of deeds like his.
