It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was passing away, he recited this verse:
And the fair one, by whose face rain is sought from the clouds, He is the nurturer of orphans and the protector of widows.
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said upon hearing this: By Allah! This person was indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) became seriously ill, he asked, "What day is it today?" We said, "Today is Monday." He asked, "On which day did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pass away?" We said, "On Monday." He said, "I think I will pass away by tonight." He was wearing a garment that had a saffron stain on it. He said, "When I die, wash this garment of mine and add two new garments to it, and shroud me in three garments." We said, "Should we not make all the garments new?" He said, "No, this is for (the corpse's) pus." Then, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away on the night of Tuesday.

It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked her, "On which day did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pass away?" She replied, "On Monday." He said, "Masha Allah, I feel that I will pass away tonight." He asked, "In what kind of clothes did you shroud the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" She replied, "In three white garments made in the Sahool village of Yemen; there was neither a shirt nor a turban among them." He said, "This garment of mine has a saffron stain on it, wash it and add two more garments to it." Sayyida (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Father! This is old." He said, "A living person is more deserving of new clothes; the shroud is for pus (decayed body)." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had given him a striped sheet, in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was also wrapped. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was taken out of it and shrouded in three white garments. Afterwards, Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) kept that sheet for himself and said, "I will have my shroud made from the cloth that has touched the blessed body of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." Then later he said, "By Allah! I will not have myself buried in such a garment in which Allah did not allow His Prophet to be buried." Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away on the night of Tuesday and was buried that very night. And when Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) also buried her at night.
