It is narrated from Qais bin Abi Hazim, he says: I was sitting in the service of the Caliph of the Messenger, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), one month after the passing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Suddenly, he remembered something and had it announced among the people: "As-Salāh Jāmi‘ah" (the prayer is gathering). This was the first prayer among the Muslims for which the words "As-Salāh Jāmi‘ah" were used to make the announcement. The people gathered, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) ascended the pulpit, praised and glorified Allah, and said: O people! I wish that someone else would take up this burden of the caliphate and I would be relieved of it. If you begin to hold me accountable according to the Sunnah of your Prophet, I will not be able to bear it. Revelation used to descend from the heavens upon him (peace and blessings be upon him), so he was protected and safeguarded from the influence of Satan.

Qais bin Abi Hazim also narrates that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, delivered a sermon and said: O people! You do recite this verse, but you are applying it out of its proper context. Allah Almighty says: {یَاأَیُّہَاالَّذِینَآمَنُوْاعَلَیْکُمْأَنْفُسَکُمْلَایَضُرُّکُمْمَنْضَلَّإِذَااہْتَدَیْتُمْ} … O you who have believed! Take care of your own selves. He who has gone astray cannot harm you when you are rightly guided. I myself heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say that when people see an evil among them and do not object to it, then Allah Almighty will send punishment upon all those people.

It is narrated from Awsat bin Amr, he says: One year after the passing of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, I came to Madinah Munawwarah. I saw Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, addressing the people. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood among us last year. Saying this, his voice was choked with tears. This happened three times. Finally, he said: O people! Ask Allah for well-being. After well-being, there is no blessing like faith and certainty that a servant has been given. And after disbelief, there is no greater sin than doubt and suspicion. Hold fast to truthfulness and honesty; it leads a person towards righteousness, and the end of truthfulness and righteousness is Paradise. And beware of lying; it leads towards sins, and the end of lying and sin is Hell.

. (Second chain) Awsat bin Amr says: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed us and said: Last year, Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) stood in this very place of mine. Saying this, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep. Then he said: Ask Allah Almighty for well-being. Then he mentioned as in the previous hadith and further said: Do not envy one another, do not bear malice towards one another, do not sever ties of kinship, do not adopt mutual estrangement and enmity, and remain brothers to one another, as Allah Almighty has commanded you.
